How to rescue drowned African violets

My pet sitter accidentally drowned two of my African violets that were in pot within a pot containers. They are from a violet from my late mother, so I really want to save them. I've taken two cuttings to root, but would like to know if I should try repotting them now. Or should I just try to dry them out in their existing pots.

Steps taken:

1. drained as much water as I could out.

2. am keeping them out of their outer pots and on a rack to get the most airflow.

3. Have just moved them into a room that has a ceiling fan going on high and are in front of a window to again get light and a lot of airflow.

Thanks for any advice.

When a pot of mine has too much water, I set it on a paper towel and the water wicks out rather quickly. I’m assuming your pot has drainage holes. In other cases, I have slipped the plant out of its pot and wrapped the roots in a paper towel. Your steps will probably work just fine; mine are just quicker. Good luck!

Yes. Start a leaf ... just in case. I have very good luck starting cuttings in plain vermiculite, with rooting powder. I set them in the sun in the bathroom where they are hard to ignore ...

Be careful with the ceiling fan set on high, if there are any flying bugs, it can distribute them throughout the room!

@terrilou I did try the papertowel method. Thanks for that tip. I think it helped the most drowned one dry out faster. Hopefully they will recover!
