Are you going to have a TV in the room? Are you wondering how to place existing furniture or are you buying new? If existing, please tell us what you have. Do you have a rug already? What are the dimensions of the room?

I like the idea of adding the shelf by the stairs and removing the current rail. I would look to add a small reading corner in that area, maybe a comfortable single chair with a table next to it.

If you're going to have a TV, I would place it along the wall opposite the windows and have the couches along the window wall and back wall. Having the seating in the middle can be an awkward fit. Lastly, I'd consider getting some coverings that help reduce glare (if yours do not already do so).

@kandrewspa yes, there will be a TV in the room.  We have an old couch and loveseat that we are using until we figure out new furniture to get.  Not opposed to another couch and loveseat or a sectional.  We do have a rug 9x12 - mix of blue, teal, beige and grey.  The wall with the windows is approx 24 ft.  The wall opposite it is approx 14 ft.  And the back wall is almost 16 ft.

Thank you so much ZebraBlinds!!  All great suggestions.  We do have sun filtering linen curtains in the center and black out on the outside.  They're tied up like that right now to keep out of the floor guys way.
