I'd swap the hardware for something else before ripping out the splash. It can be that you just want a change but I find that to be really attractive. Just browse the local tile store where you are and bring home samples both light or dark for that matter. something would have to appeal to me...it becomes personal preference.....so see what's available.. Look at all the versions of a light colored subway tile since the geometric pattern is getting replaced. subway tile can be chosen in various sizes which makes it not boring and your transitional style space can work with many updated forms of subway tile..... note the Stacked tile../larger subway tiles ....and last..... a longer narrower option. Glass tiles in a soft taupe or champagne color can fit the bill too if you can find the right shade.

That would be INSANE. It's a beautiful kitchen. When was it last 'redone'? Change for changes sake is filling our landfills and gets you what in the end? The latest fad that is coming down the pike. Silly.

I'd match the counter or find something that went good with it.

As herb has suggested, i would also change the hardware. it it’s a bit too traditional for my style, but i reall like your kitchen.

Fix the very poorly selected hardware, and leave well enough alone on the backsplash.

Very dark and harsh hardware is making the cabinetry nervous/jumpy, and is ill suited to the look of the kitchen AND the backsplash.

You have a patterned counter and differently-patterned backsplash, but the colors seem to match, and they look good together. If the backsplash was installed after the counter, it may be easier to remove…..or remove the counter if it was installed last. I think putting in a solid counter may be an easier job…but the solid color must match one color in the backsplash. I personally would leave the counter and backsplash and just change the handles to brushed stainless steel to match the appliances.

Agree, hardware is too heavy. Maybe brass or brushed nickel. Tile is pretty as is.

I'm with you, I don't care for the BS so much. While it matches perfectly with your countertop and backsplash, it would drive me nuts following that pattern all the time with my eyes. I could never get used to it. I just prefer horizontal lines for a backsplash. something subtle would be my taste, either shiny or matte--pale in color or white. I don't know if I would spend money to replace the BS, because I tend to lean frugal, but if you've got the money you should get what makes you happy. I also think the hardware is too heavy, this coming from someone who has black hardware, which I love, but mine is far less heavy and looks good, I think, in my small kitchen, where the black hardware is not repeated too much. I think you should go with something other than black for the hardware. My hardware is more on the scale with the "parade home" photo that @herbflavor posted, a mixture of knobs and pulls with small and thin profiles. Your kitchen is a beautiful-envious kitchen otherwise, so I would go with your heart's desire! Marble backsplash will not go well with your countertop.

Could you provide a close up of the counter and you’ll receive more helpful advice. I don’t suggest going dark, given you are leaning towards marble, which I think would be classic and lovely. Be selective when looking at slabs’ veining - subtle and shades that pick up on the counter.

It doesn’t matter if other people like your backsplash - you don’t and it’s your house. I do agree with others that changing the hardware FIRST, will help your eyes to find the right replacement tiles. I wouldn’t do a solid slab.

Look at soft colored tiles and use a matching grout to give a solid look. Is white your first choice? Or would a soft taupe or grey go with your countertop? You may need to cover the existing backsplash with white paper so your eyes can assess the samples you buy. It’s rather busy and a little dizzying.

With that many handles, I would suggest looking at clear acrylic styles to make them disappear somewhat.

I would never mix a marble slab backsplash with a faux marble quartz counter top.

I do mean never........: ) If you want marble slab, do the tops as well.

If you want a change? Clarify what you are after. Inspo pics. Are you attempting rustic? Because I see a wood beam in the beyond.

Tip: A single longer pull ( proportional ) on a drawer is far less cluttered than two. It also prevents the yanking with one hand effect.

I don’t mind the pulls 😂 It’s so funny what different people notice. But the backsplash does clash. You need inspiration images! Google images of kitchens with white cabinets and dark hardware, like the one @Maureen posted. See what you find beautiful. If you’re keeping your counters, and why wouldn't you, that will be the star of the show. So the bs will be quiet, no movement, something like Thassos marble.

If you are interested in tile, I’d choose white to light grey with little variation in color, but a beautiful shape, like the picket braid below fro Fireclay Tile.

see how they have this dark island piece? if you did that on your perimeter countertop you could do a tile like shown here, or something w/a bit of interest.

Nothing lives in isolation, let alone a backsplash. Nor does a kitchen live in isolation from the rest of your home.

Clarify the kitchen/whole house look and feel you are seeking, or you will spend a ton of money to get NOT what you want.......
