Asbestos question

last modified: 4 years ago

Hi all. I wonder if anyone can answer this question or offer advice. I will admit I feel quite stupid asking this!

I bought a house which was built in the 70s last year. I had it renovated throughout (new floors, plastered walls, painted etc). Since then I have learnt a little about asbestos and realised that this may (or may not) be in my home.

When the old carpets were pulled up there were grey tiles underneath (12x12). Most were intact and in good condition. However, a very few were cracked and revealed black underneath (which I assume is black mastic). Nobody ever raised concern to me about these, and new floors were laid (engineered wooden flooring and carpet) in different rooms. Looking back at photos of the renovation I can see this looks like asbestos tiles. I know that asbestos tiles are safe when intact and undisturbed but I’m now panicking that a small number were cracked and if this creates a problem or not? Or now that new floors are laid, should I just forget about it?

Thank you in advance for reading and your responses.
