So glad you had fun planting your new babies! I added a few from Laura about 2 weeks ago. I ordered from Petal Pushers on e a few years ago……was not impressed

I guess it was the awful heat this week that dried out your Petal Pusher order. I've always gotten lush, green plants from Elaine. I hope those perk up for you.

Thank you, Julia, I'm not sure about a green thumb but I do expect them to perk up as cooler weather begins here tomorrow and I will be able to go out and work with them then too as it is long enough since the surgery. That may be, Debra, but I got a small order from a New Jersey order today and it was still quite nice and green and it was hotter than blue blazes the lat three days.

Debra, she got rust in her garden somehow and did not have an actual sale. If you are not worried about rust you can contact her for her list.

I have heard a couple other similar complaints about Petal Pushers this fall. I have never ordered from them, but I had in my notes that they are great, so I am surprised.

Not hard to imagine how rust got into a northern garden. Florida plants received in spring will often produce rust by August. One has to segregate those plants, as rust will quickly rage through the garden.

Debra's plants were the nicest I received; she sent especially large divisions because she is downsizing. (One plant did just show some rust, but so late as not to damage others.) Kate sent a very nice division too.

I am always surprised by the raves about Petal Pushers on Facebook, especially when the plants pictured are merely adequate. Of course, I am not looking for plants pumped up with fertilizer. Those languish for a while in the garden and reduce in size.

I try and make doubly sure that the daylilies I buy are from a rust free source. When I asked Petal Pushers that question a couple of years back she sounded irritated that I asked. That said it all to me. Her pictures of some of her own hybrids are tempting.......Maryl

I am surprised that Petal Pushers would get rust, but I guess, like mantis said, if you acquire plants from a southern source, you can get rust. I accidentally bought a couple of daylilies from TX a few years ago, planted them with mine without thinking. By the time I realized it, it was late in the summer. Fortunately, they had no rust.

Nancy: Her response at Petal Pushers indicated she may have rust but she didn't care if she did...........The one time I had rust the plants were from a Texas hybridizer. Buying only northern grown daylilies isn't totally safe either. Many use Greenhouses that allow rust to overwinter. If you ask him (and I did) Mike Grossman at Northern Lights daylilies for instance is honest about possibly having rust because of his greenhouse......Rust is something I care about first and foremost, but a lot of people don't mind it or spray to keep it under control. Yes, I am cautious about the Northern Lights stuff I receive. I don't know about people in the South, but I do know that the year I had fall rust in my garden, it was horrible. Can't imagine having to deal with that every year, probably beginning much earlier. Karol Emmerich cleared out her greenhouse last winter just to get rid of rust.

That seems a harsh response, considering PP is such a popular place to buy. I don't worry about plants I get in the fall, knowing I get cold enough to kill any rust I might get, but rust is to be avoided. I did not realize rust exist in a greenhouse til someone mentioned it to me last spring. I have bought from Northern Lights a couple of times. Would not have since they only mail out in spring if I had realized.
