Have you tried crushing a leaf and smelling it? If they have a spicy, citrus smell then it's Spicebush, Lindera benzoin.

Yeah, I was thinking spicebush too. Red fruit would be a giveaway, but not all will have fruit.

Spicebush was my first thought also. The bright yellow leaves are right for spicebush fall color as well as the overall branching and leaf shape.
