cutting too heavy cactus

Hi, So I have a parodia cactus and it has grown too much. The bottom part is too thin to support the bigger top half. It cannot hold itself upright. I tried supporting it with sticks and such but it keeps growing more to the side since it's too heavy. Without the support the cactus would be laying down. I think it's time to cut the cactus. I was thinking it would be a good idea to cut it in half and then replant the top half while trying to keep the bottom half as well. Please let me know if that is the right thing to do.

It's not getting enough light (and/or being kept too wet) if it's thinned out. They're normally a globe shaped cactus and shouldn't ever do that.

Cacti and succulents being grown in ordinary interiors (as opposed to bright greenhouses or outside in suitable climates) very often become deformed by inadequate light levels. With the solution being improved illumination rather than amputation.

Correct, but better light won’t help with the shape of the cactus now. Maybe Dominka could post a photo. Also one should consider if is the best time of year to cut it

. Might depend on where Dom. is located.
