Thank you! I have Grandmother's Hat, and love it. Now you have given me a longing for Larry Daniels - I had no idea (or, more likely, had forgotten) that there was a pale pink sport of it - some of the photos even look pure white. GH is such a fabulous rose - I will have to go and encourage mine to do some sporting!

There are actually TWO pale sports of "Grandmother's Hat" . . . Yes, there's 'Larry Daniels,' but there is also 'Tina Marie.'

'Tina Marie' ranges in color from white to a light pink that I found to be a clearer, cooler pink shade than 'Larry Daniels' (I've grown them both, and found TM to be superior.

TM also periodically sports back to GramHat, which I find to be quite lovely. I think it MIGHT be available from Burlington Rose Nursery. We propagated several plants last winter, to sell at rose events that didn;t happen. I may have to give one to my sister.

jerijen Do you have any experience with their shade tolerance? RVR lists Larry Daniels as very shade tolerant. Just wondering if anyone can confirm this. I see it listed as hardy to Z5 in some places, and hardy to Z7 in others.

@Reb Z6-KS "shade tolerance" is going to vary greatly depending upon longitude and elevation. Heat levels also come into play as protection from extreme heat by shading helps maintain the life of the plant. I've grown GH and her variants in a variety of gardens since the early 1990s after "discovering" her in The Study Plot at The Huntington Library as a volunteer there propagating plants for their sales. In much of Southern California, all of the Grandmother's Hat variations grow and flower quite well in about five hours of direct sun. I've observed them growing and flowering beautifully in even a bit less morning sun. The flowers last longer and have better colors in that cooler, cleaner morning light. How that translates to Kansas is anyone's guess.
