Without any other information, I like the first one better. It is more refined and less chunky. It really depends on what look you are going for.

Much depends on proportion, too, How big are they? How big is your room? Where do you intend to put the desk? Is this a real study or a room that you call a study? Will the desk actually be used as a desk?

@ptreckel It will be used as a desk. they are both 60x 30x30 It eill be in front of mirror for now Maybe in middle of room later

Which will be easier to decorate around?

Have you sat in front of both of them? The long table seems like an entry hall table or table set in front of wall in dining room. This one may not be the correct height to sit at. Also you would have to have a rolling chair or get up to pick up things at the ends of the table since it’s so long.

The first one looks to have a rough texture which will be a pain if you plan to do any writing - unless you cover with glass.

    The second one looks sturdier.

The second one is more desk style then the first, which looks more like an entryway table. But hard to tell without the dimensions.

I think the finish and proportions of the first one will look more elegant with your colors and space. The second one has a clunkier look.

Prefer the RH desk’s style, wood’s stain and that it‘s solid oak. Thought the second to last bullet point may be a consideration.

I think the Ballard desk is too rustic for the room. Have you seen this one?

Feels like your rug should be turned the other direction since it runs into the baseboard, but really can't see room proportions. The gray desk is feminine, the other one masculine, if that makes a difference to you. what about other furnishings in the room; can they be categorized either way, or are they pretty generic?

Mentioned size and chunky-sturdy already, so I'll ask if the mirror is border-chunky, and sized large?

I think the first one will go nicer with your rooom. the second one looks too bulky and farmhosue looking

I like the first one. You can buy a leather pad on amazon.

I think Ballard furniture is better made than Restoration Hardware. RH is over rated IMO.

I like Ballard better the RH also.
Please turn your rug around and post new picture

    @Serene Home Designs Dimensions are the same for both desk . 60 length x 30 h x 30 wide

@decoenthusiaste I need to pull the rug back some the other way away from the wall. It will not work to turn it in the other direction.

@everdebz Yes the mirror is a little chucky and heavy looking.

Should I get the Ballard desk in white instead of the oak color? And it does come with a glass top that i think will dress it up a little. I know it looks chunky but i wanted something sturdy that will not wobble. It is so hard to find a nice looking wriitng desk that doesn't look fragile. And I am afraid the RH desk looks more like a table.

Ok i am adding 3 more desk that i looked at at. please tell me if you like these better than the first 2.

I don't really like any of the other three - and think either of the first two will work. It really depends on what else you want to put in the room, and if you are looking for a more refined or more "chunky" style. I like the first one you posted with the rug and mirror in the picture.

If you need the storage for files, paperwork, office supplies then I would suggest the PB desk. I have something similar and love having quick access to things I need. If storage not needed then I like the Ballard in white.

@Maureen who makes the last desk that you sent?

Unfortunately article was regarding shelf styling and doesn’t reference any furniture sources.

In searching, I came across this beautiful desk.

    https://www.mcgeeandco.com/products/betsey-desk

They have other styles, with a starting price around $1,100. Good luck!

@Serene Home Designs Here are 2 more desks from pb with the storage options. what do you think of these?

I love the Ballard and Betsey desks that Maureen has suggested. Def no to the Room and Board one. Are you going to need storage in the room for work items? What is your plan for that? Bookcases? It's hard to suggest a desk without knowing your plans for the rest of the room.

@tfitz1006 i want to eventally get a credenza or bookshelves or long console Would you get the ballard desk in white or the oak?

I like the white but it is more feminine to my eye. The oak is neutral and nice. Such a pretty room.

I like the PB keyhole desk if you dont need the storage then the Ballard sent by Maureen (if they have in ash wood color would selectvthat over white but if not white is pretty too)

    @fdolaher

The printers keyhole desk also comes as a writing desk without the drawers. Do you like it better with the drawers or without? They are both the same dimensions

@fdolaher woukd you get the printers keyhole desk with the drawers or without? the pictures are loaded above Thanks

    Would*

1st step is function…How many hours a day will you work at this desk? How many drawers do you need for office supplies? How much room for printer and extra paper? Will you use laptop or CPU & desktop? Will you need to store important documents in the desk?

Once you settle on function, consider a local furniture consignment store, Fb marketplace, or second hand shop for a quality desk at reasonable price.

@Serene Home Designs here is one more desk with storage from Pottery Barn. the white is on sale right now. would this be appropriate in a study? Or would you stay away from the white? Does this look too heavy?

@Serene Home Designs and here is last one One similar from Ballard

I prefer the ballard design one - the color is soothing and I like the open style for chairs - makes it less heavy looking.
