Yes, they can be grown here in Dallas but be advised: in the summer, they need morning sun (until 11am or earlier so... no 12pm sun, no afternoon summer sun and no evening summer sun until 9pm); stake them at first (best done when leafless in winter) so the chances of flopping will be minimized (Incrediball, Invincibelle or hydrangea arborescens cultivars in general, none are immune to flopping when windy and tornadic weather strikes in the summer from May through September); they wilt when temperatures typically exceed 85°F from May-September. Maintain 3-4" of organic mulch to minimize soil moisture loss and maintain the soil always moist at all times during the summer months (May-September). Never water the leaves. Provide the same sunlight exposures to mopheads and oakleafs. Paniculatas can withstand the sun in the summer months but that comes at the expense of blooming issues. Paniculatas like to bloom just as our highest temperatures arrive and the white sepals may brown out prematurely within days our months long 100+F degree summers. Do not be surprised if you get no pinks and the blooms open and turn brown within days. Vanilla Strawberry is well known for browning out the blooms early. If you are located in east Texas or maybe near Houston, you will not need to amend the soil to keep it acidic; otherwise, amend the sun regularly year around with some garden sulfur.
