Bathroom vanity help

I have a small area for a bathroom vanity. I don’t have room for two sinks. If I get a trough sink what is the minimum space you think I would need for two faucets so two people could stand there at once? I have about 40 inches give or take. I can take some space from the shower if need be.

could you post a pic of the space?

will you always have two people using this sink at one time? Couldn't one person brush their teeth and the other person come in afterward? (I just can't understand why 2 people need to use the sink at the same time!)

40" vanity w/a trough sink doesn't leave a lot of countertop space.

Why do 2 people need to be at the sink at once? In a small area, it makes more sense to have a bit more counter space than sink space. Two adults should be able to sort out some kind of sharing routine, and counter space for doing hair and makeup is really important. If you have kids and squabbling is inevitable, and they will not grow up to be constantly in front of the mirror trying new hair and makeup styles, then by all means do 2 faucets.

For me to stand next to my husband while we are brushing our teeth, the sink would have to be about 20 ft long. IMO, bathrooms are meant to be private spaces.

To answer your question : for one vanity, sinks should be (at the minimum) 36" apart. So, no there is no room. The trough sink is a good one for a bathroom because of the depth.

I definitely agree about the two people in there at the same time. The guy who lives here with me 😂is doing the work and I’m trying to accommodate his request for two sinks. We are going to move the wall out about 6 inches or more so there will be more space than shown now.
I’m fine with one sink. If space for two won’t work I’m good with it.
I’ll just have to tell him it won’t work.

I was hoping a trough sink could accommodate the two sink function with less space taken up.

I wouldn't cut back on the shower size to try to squeeze in two sinks in a bathroom this size. It was only meant to have one. I think in general women care more about counter space than men do. If you put in a trough sink you won't have any counter space left. If you have another bathroom in the house, ask DH if he can keep his toothbrush there. :-)

No, having 2 faucets in one sink does not mimic 2 separate sinks. It’s waaayyyyyy to small to have 2 people in that spot, especially if it’s you and “the guy who lives here,” not a spouse or SO.

is it your home? you do you! lol why are you worried about some 'guy' who lives there? and moreso, why does he want to share it w/you??

that bathroom is too small for two adults to stand there at one sink! tell him 'No'.

a 40" vanity is pretty small

you want one w/some drawers for decent storage

If you do an offset sink, you'll get more countertop space. just make sure you can adjust your plumbing before you order one. this is a left offset

Something else you can do for more room is a wall mounted faucet.

I did this one for my neighbors 5x8 bathroom. the vanity is offset w/wallmount faucet

if you can squeeze in a 43", you could do something like this

or, this one is on sale. 42"

    Thanks Ladies for the help!
He always accommodates my requests whenever humanly possible so I thought if I could accommodate him with his request I would try.

why does he want two sinks? Does he have a girlfriend that shares his space? or does he want to share this w/you? (creepy)

You just can't accomodate him with two sinks into a 40" space. Can he not see this? and the trough sink is just silly.

I'm sure you can accomodate him elsehwere.

Besides, it's your house? you have to worry about resale. people want countertop space not sink space

Beth- settle down. In one of my previous comments I said that if it wouldn’t work as many of you said it wouldn’t- that I would just tell him it wouldn’t work. He lives here he just wanted his own sink! Geeze!
    THE END!

i'm perfectly calm. no need for the scolding.

your last comment made it seem like you were still considering it, "he wants his own sink" .

it's obvious that can't happen. should have been a no-brainer from the get-go.

not a big deal dear. it was just a weird request.

    hey, have a great makeover.

I will say this to eveyone who posts here if you do not want the answers do not ask the question. You gave us no info as to how this person is related to you other than he lives there. So we just guess. As for the sink situation I think that has been answered
