My first guess was the Poppy family Papaveraceae, but nothing there. Then I thought maybe 4 o:clock family Nyctaginaceae or Evening Primrose family Onagraceae, still nothing. Compare to Mentzelia nuda, Bractless Blazingstar, Loasaceae. It seems to be the species that has seed capsules closest to your plant.

Holy jeez dude I think you nailed it with Mentzelia. I had no idea such a plant existed down here in my area. Its a type of Blazing Star for sure. Time to collect some seeds and see what flowers it has

Mentzelia nuda

Mentzelia is an underrated genus for gardens in hot dry climates.

They are underrated mac. It looks like in Oregon laevicaulis is the most common, and it looks really blazing with it's long stamens, and dispersa and albicaulis are small, and in complete contrast to laevicaulis. The most common, and possibly the only species in Illinois is oligosperma and it's flowers look like something in between laevicaulis and your other 2 species. They occur in southern Illinois, but not near me. I tried seeds of oligosperma and few years ago with no luck, but I would like to try growing again sometime. Observations show 7 species occurring in Texas, 2 with white flowers and 5 with yellow flowers.

Wow, that is a dope genus...their flowers remind me of St. John's Wort.

Oh, it's very difficult to define. According to the photo, only experienced biologists will help you determine the type of this wild plant, especially when I was driving through San Antonio, I saw many different types of such plants, and I would not say that they are very different in some way :) As for flowers and plants, I am not a special expert here, but I think that on this forum, you will find knowledgeable people who will prompt and help you. Even when I met a girl, I rarely gave her flowers. If I did, I turned to the Mississauga flower delivery service since this service makes unusual bouquets that even attracted me.

I looked at the leaves and seed capsules and after comparing all the Mentzelia species that occur in San Antonio, M. nuda seemed the best match. It also has 2 varieties, M. nuda var. nuda, and M. nuda var. stricta. I can't find any info about telling the 2 varieties apart. I have submitted the photo to more experienced 'biologists', for confirmation.
