Help? What to do with this wall.

Help me decide. Hang the mirror or no? Do something else with the side wall next to the fireplace?

I agree with Beth - there’s so much going on already that you don’t need the mirrors.

    The wreath is cool.

I like the idea of bringing in a tall plant to soften the space a bit without adding a lot more busyness.

    Maybe this is max style?

The mirrors are much too busy for the space. You don't need anything on the fireplace wall. The chair looks too large and heavy for that space...maybe that is the incongruence you are seeing...

Strip it back! Get rid of everything. Lighten the wood and paint the gold black because the fireplace looks tiny against the brick. Add a large piece of artwork above. Put the mirrors and wreath on another wall/door.

@Beth H. : my original post was accidentally deleted by me when I was trying read it. Oops!

If the space was mine, I wouldn’t rush to paint the gold black or lighten the wood. I like the warmth of the darker colors. In fact, my eye wants to see less black and maybe play up the brassy fireplace by replacing the black wood candles with metal (antique brass?) candlesticks?

and I second Tmac’s suggestion to add a large piece of art to balance it out. Fewer small things.

@blossom37 Still need a picture showing the whole room to get usable advice. You can’t fill that space with stuff without considering all the other stuff in the space. Are those stairs to left of FP? Really need to see the room.

ETA I see most of the decor on FP is for halloween. Could you remove that just to take a new pic so Houzzers can see what you have there outside holiday seasons.

You don't need anything beside the fireplace. The fireplace is the star. Not everyone inch of space needs to be used in a room. The mantel is awesome as is, I wouldn't touch it. I like the gold fireplace doors with the stone. If you want to go darker, don't use black. It is harsh. Use a softer black like gunmetal or even better a brown bronze color.

    Older post -

@blossom37 - what color paint did you use for your staircase remodel? I read a post where you commented about paint colors for someone (I think they were looking at Repose Gray and Agreeable Gray maybe) - and said something about how your painter accidentally tinted the primer for your staircase remodel Revere Pewter - did you just decide to paint the staircase Revere Pewter? Did you use the same color on the walls in this room?

also - did you stain or paint the handrail black? Your remodel looks nice- I‘ve decided to keep my existing handrail and balusters (which are the same as yours) for right now due to all of the issues I’ve had renovating my home. I decided to get everything else finished - and then come back to the handrail/newell posts/balusters. The way yours was updated looks nice - I’d like to copy some of it until I fully renovate it later! My balusters are attached directly to my treads - and I’m still deciding on whether to have the treads match the handrail or the balusters/risers for now. I will have a runner installed until the major renovation happens.

    Thanks!
