Cute house; I'd start with a portico:

The symmetrical architecture is a great foundation. How about whitewashing the brick, and adding a pop of color on the front door? How about a curved front porch that runs to both sides of the windows. Porches are great!

The least expensive solution would be an awning.

Also consider flower boxes on the second story windows

I would remove the shutters and add decorative trim around the windows to widen them and then paint the upper portion a blue gray to compliment your lower level red brick. Paint all white trim, including door, a blue gray as in the photo below . Landscaping will add a lot of curb appeal - get rid of all the evergreens and start from scratch. Make a curved bed on each side of the walkeway going to the sides and fill it with low growing evergreens, blooming shrubs, ornamental grasses , perennials and annuals . If current walkway is sound, add tile ontop and widen it with a concrete apron .

Thanks for your comments Caroline. We are planning on adding new front steps approximately 7 ft wide in either brick or stone with bluestone top treads. Also going to widen the front and front side walkways a little in pennsylvania bluestone. I really like your idea about adding a curved bed on each side and filling with low growing evergreens, blooming shrubs, ornamental grasses, perennials and annuals. I am also thinking of painting the top siding in either a taupe or grey color, changing shutters to black as well as adding top window trim. Please give me you thoughts on the bluestone walkways do you think that would be a good addition.

A splendid idea myercedes to add a bluestone walkway. Can't tell from your photo but if you have space on each side of the house add a tall pyramidal shaped tree such as a European hornbeam to balance the landscape.

A Portico would add curb appeal

I would suggest painting the brick white to match the siding and keeping the cranberry shutters. When it comes time to replace the roof, I would recommend a cranberry metal roof with vertical ridges. I would suggest relocating the evergreens to the borders of the yard to create a courtyard effect and ground-level patios for entertaining in the warm part of the year. However, you should check with local codes to be sure about keeping landscaping five to eight feet from the property line to be in compliance with the code and for ease in mowing and trimming.
