How can this happen?

When I did that last quilt from Jordan Fabrics, everything went together so smoothly, I was amazed.

So, since it was so easy, I decided to do it again.

The rows went together nicely but that sashing strip between…aargh!

The rows should measure 53”. And they did. So strips get cut at 53”.

I sewed and ripped and tried to ease to no avail. I added an extra piece to them all and recut at 54”.

Pinned one row and found I had too much. what now??

The heck with it! I am sewing them all on, no pinning, leaving a tail on one end which I will even off and hope that when I join the next strip, they will all behave and meet where they should. We may have an extremely wonky border.

Why, oh why, oh why??

Did you forget to add the 1/4 seam allowance at each end of the strip (so they would be 53-1/2)? I've done that many times! Sorry it's giving you trouble this time around.

I am pretty sure I calculated correctly but then again…

I did go down and attack the beast and it wasn’t as bad as I had at first thought. So the top is put together, now to decide on a border or not.

fiddle dee dee tomorrow is another day.

I say I am in the twilight zone when things like that happen. Sometimes you do just have to give up figuring it out and plunge ahead.

Sorry it's so frustrating, Theresa. On one quilt, I had to change the seam allowance three times in each block to get it to fit together properly. Otherwise, I lost all the points. I just gave up trying to figure out what was wrong and just changed the allowances. Came out great.

To avoid those wonky borders, I opted for no border. and while it isn’t the squarest quilt in the world, it certainly isn’t the worst I have done.

and Bev, Grammy P I can see where doing the whole row with the same fabric would look good.

Chain Link is on my list because it uses up the "scraps" I have. My scraps are all pre-cut into various sizes (Predetermined (selected sizes only) by me from 10x10; 5x5, 3.5x3.5 and down to 2x2 or 1.5x3 - whichever you think is smaller!) I skip a lot of the sizes between. Currently, getting through some of my 'less desirable' looking stuff. I'm in a 3-yard Fabric Cafe cycle - so tops go fast. Also, I've figured out the minimum linear measurements to use up the leftovers. Stitchingly
