A medium gray tone would add some more subtle warmth against the cabinets you have.

By nixing the orange color, the grey /beige will be softer and will marry the flooring. The track lighting could be updated with new smaller cans.

Yes! I was thinking maroon too. That's what first hit me as soon as I saw the pic. Or else you could also pick a darker tone of one of the colors in the floor. I agree, no white. Not sure grey is the best either

Thanks all! I'm starting to think gray may not be a good idea - the swatches don't excite me. Maroon wont work bc The attached den is a reddish color - ill take a pic when I get home - I can't make up my mind to keep or go neutral In the den. Anyway - thanks again.

i think a turquoise color with grey undertones would look really nice...or if you are more adventurous a mild lime-ish green..either wiuld look great with your cabinets

I'd paint the walls white or whatever the tone of the ceiling is as a continuum of the ceiling. The other thing I'd change/add nobs and pulls of the cabinets to give some unique expression of the kitchen

Also the appliances are creme, not white as it may look in pic.

I really like the green too...but the neutral route might be best for me so I don't have " buyers remorse "

Yeah, you've got a lot of open space there. Love the rich colors- it'll be hard to change the tone in one room without the others. Opening a can of paint is like opening a can of worms!
If this is the only room you'll be painting, I'd go with a deep color like olive green or midnight blue like the color of your chairs. At least on the walls with cabinets. The others can be greige or the color of the far wall to the left of the chalk board.
I'd paint out the white door, too.

@brickln: agree on doors. I apologize but I'm not following - paint the kitchen olive or blue if I stick with red den?

stick to colour flow tone on the same color other wise the place will look like a hodge podge of colour with nothing coordinating

I would choose a wheat (yellowish tone) and re-stain the cabinets a cherrywood tone

I think you need a balance with your oak cabinets. I would look for a green or ocean blue color for balance. Some white accents and a rug with all of the colors in it would tie it all together. Enter a search on Houzz for oak cabinets to find some rooms with a wall color the YOU like. You're the one that will live with this room.

Love the wheat, but what the room lacks is contrast. Wheat is too close to the cabinet color. RE: red den, like anne said, the rooms won't flow as well if you use different tones AND different colors. Red's a hard color to cover, so getting both the kitchen and den to the same color brings on a little more expense. Not good if you're looking for the cheapest option. If you want to work your way toward a different tone, keep a rich color up against the cabinets for now, and paint the other walls in a neutral tone like the wheat or gray-beige.

BM par four 470 or silver sage 506 might add some serenity too.
The BM website does look less green than other example pictures online though, so please test first.

I would use a warm (brown) gray - like Ben Moore HC- 80 or HC -83 - for the walls, a deep red at the backsplash (space between counter and upper cabinets), and then add knobs and pulls in black to give it some personality for little investment.

I think this would be a great colour as you can use warm or cool colours for accent and it blends well with colours from adjoining rooms.

@ amy : id be open to an accent wall, not all the walls.

ok to yr suggestion and then you can decide if the red wall is to yr liking and if it coordinates to the tone of paint color you will use if not you can paint over the red.

Carolina Inn Club Aqua is a valspar color I have in my kitchen and I love it!

It flows with other colors fine- very neutral but warm- it would tie in well with the creams and your floor- I think adding hardware to your cabinets would be nice too!
