Ask for a few more samples of the same tile and apply different grouts you are considering. Let them fully dry and check the results outside in the daylight where you plan to put the pool. Place the samples side by side for comparison.

Thanks for the suggestion! Do you know where I would be able to buy grout sample? I asked my pool guy and he said supplier doesn’t sell sample size grout.

You would have to purchase grouts in the colors you are considering, and then apply them to the samples.

You can find small containers from the big box stores. Some local tile stores may also be willing to give you a small amount from an open package.

You want a sanded grout. Grouts are pretty much the same across the board.

I have a question for you, is it normal to have raised pavers? It’s not common to have rain here in SoCal, but I know we’ve have quite the rain the last couple months, it even rained yesterday and it wasn’t even on our forecast. I’m wondering if that had anything to do with the raised pavers around our coping. You can’t see it in the pictures, but it is quite noticiable in person.

Sorry I didn’t see your reply. I don’t know if that’s right term to describe what’s happening around my coping, but it’s gotten worse now especially with the heavy rains we received this week. Here are a few pictures of what it looked like a couple of weeks ago. It’s a little worse now.

That side of the pool gets zero sun because of my neighbors pepper tree. I’m wondering if that has anything to do with it.

The subbase for the pavers has settled and has caused the pavers to settle as well.

This is not uncommon along the back edge of a new pool. But, a good contractor will understand this and be sure to completely compact that are to avoid issues as such.

Proper pitch away from the pool keeps water from puddling and accelerating the settling.

I'm sure the heavy rains played a part.

The pavers would have to be picked up and the base filled where needed and compacted once again.

To the original question - what grout color did you choose?

I had a similar experience when selecting grout color for my iridescent pool tile. I also didn't want to highlight the grout lines too much and was hesitant about using white. I ended up going with a light gray grout and was really happy with how it turned out. It blended nicely with the iridescent white tile without drawing too much attention to the grout lines.

I would suggest getting samples of both white and gray grout and laying them next to your tile to see which one complements the iridescence the best. And if you're still unsure, a professional tile installer or designer may be able to offer some expert advice on grout color selection based on your specific situation.

Hi @Bianca and @Grace Caraan -- any regrets on an iridescent pool tile or are you happy with your selection? I'm considering an iridescent blue subway tile (for waterline, top of spa border and top of auto cover border) but can't tell if it will be fun visual interest or over the top sparkle. Thanks for your advice!

I chose sterling, I has the same question- no answer on that though. I’ll post a picture when mine is done in case it is still helpful - the reason is- they say it gets lighter in the sun and also I didn’t want to enhance the ivory

Sorry everyone! I know this reply is years late 🤭! I hope all your pools are everything you envisioned it to be. I’d love to see some pictures of your finished pools. As for my pool, I’m still very much happy with the choice of tile, grout (light gray) and pebble I made.
