All Miele Kitchen…Never, ever again

I redid my kitchen over the past 18 months. The first thing my husband and I did was to go to Ferguson’s (Philadelphia) and pick out our appliances. We took a pass on Viking and Subzero…even though our Subzero, 20 years old, is still going. This was supposed to be our once in a lifetime, forever kitchen. So…

We bought an all Miele kitchen. That included the refrigerator, the wine refrigerator, the oven, the steam oven, the range, the dishwasher, basically everything you would pick for a kitchen. Suffice to say, we went “high end” …

Well here I am 18 months later. No refrigerator. No oven. Where to begin…we plugged the refrigerator in back in the Spring. IT HAS NEVER WORKED. The oven door was broken when it was being installed by Ferguson’s…we have not had an oven since. This is not a period of weeks…this has been months.

Basically all this time, if it was up to Miele, I wouldn’t have a kitchen with an oven OR a refrigerator. Really not a good feeling when you build the “dream” kitchen. Plus…does anyone from Miele reach out to make this better? Despite numerous emails and reach outs from us (the consumer) our contractor, etc. The only thing we have managed to get as a response is a series of service calls to see what the problem is — which apparently they have yet to diagnose. And the oven door, we will be lucky to see that before THANKSGIVING.

This refrigerator still has the blue plastic on it…the oven is wide open and pristine. It has been months.

Luckily that 20 year-old Subzero works and the little Amazon microwave we bought at the beginning of the project is chugging away.

Stick with tried and true.

That sounds horribly disapppointing. I have fantasatic customer service from Sub-zero - thank god, because when you pay so much for appliances, you really want good support. Have you worked this up the chain of command at Meile - asked to talk to manager's managers? I wouldn't count on Ferguson to give you the right support. I love my Meile canister vac, best purchase ever, but when it came to purchasing appliances for our Philly kitchen, we went to the Meile showroom in Princeton and were not impressed. So sorry you have to deal with this.

I'm sure you don't want to shell out more money, but to get you through you may want to get a Breville oven. Our gas is currently shut off (now live in Manhattan, pre-war building, city mandated gas upgrade to entire building.) Everyone on my floor bought Breville ovens and they are great. Can roast a 14 lb bird. But, it sounds like you might have to go potluck for Thanksgiving!

Just as a follow up to all the helpful comments…we have worked this up and down the chain of command…I am so underwhelmed by this experience and I feel terribly uninformed as a consumer…so many good reviews for Miele out there…definitely not our experience…

I am sorry this happened to you. The advice constantly repeated here is not to buy all appliances by one brand. Each brand excels in different appliances. Miele would be dishwasher and washer/dryer. But there are many reports about the Miele ranges and cooktops being below par. I have not heard about the Miele fridges. But whenever you buy all one brand of appliances you are stuck dealing with the one manufacturer. It's best for people to buy different brands of appliances.

Perhaps it is true that it is wiser to not buy one manufacturer...for every appliance. I have learned that the hardest way possible. But as a reminder...wolf and subzero ..aren't they all owned by the same company? In any case, I don't think it is unreasonable to expect your refrigerator to work or your oven to close.

If I received a refrigerator that was dead on arrival, I would insist on a replacement, NOT a repair. Same for the oven - broken during installation- don’t leave it, take it back. You need to start raising hell with Ferguson’s, and your contractor.

Sorry for your experience, but nothing like what we have experienced with our appliances over the years.

Not sure what you mean when you say stick with tried and true, because I don't think that one perfect brand even exists!!

My experience: we remodeled a kitchen in 2018 and purchased SZ fridge and freezer columns, Wolf 48" dual fuel range and MW drawer, Miele DW, CSO and coffee machine, Modern-aire custom hood and ULine under counter beverage fridge. No issues with any of those appliances.

Also had Miele washer and dryer for 10 years that were great at washing and drying, but I did have, on average, one service call per year on one or the other, which Miele service handled well. We left them when we sold the house because our future house didn't have natural gas for the dryer and Miele tech said that moving them cross country and storing them for over a year was probably not a good idea.

Built a new house this past year and used SZ 42" FD fridge and 24" beverage fridge , Wolf 36" induction range, Miele DW, CSO and coffee machine, Sharp MW, and Vent-a hood custom hood, GE washer and dryer, and LG fridge in laundry room. Again, no issues with any of the appliances. We bought all of them from a large family owned appliance store that has an in house service department. They installed them all and will also service them as needed.

Unfortunately remodeling/building during the past few years has been a lot harder with all the supply chain issues, with long lead times for products and parts.

I agree with you that it makes sense not to paint the cabinets. And in the same vein, I wouldn't tile the walls either. Why do you need a backsplash? I have not had one in my last two kitchens and they held up fine.

Could you put a clear protective coat on the wood in the sink area to preserve the wood? If not, I'd do a 4" splash that is made of the same material as your counter. I do not think the grey subway tile you selected will look very good with your woodsy home. Too sleek and hard looking. Too much contrast to the counter.

Do a quick google image search for log cabin wood kitchen and you will find that few have backsplashes, those that do have short ones that match the counter.

    I'm surprised.

I watch a lot of shows (e.g., Million Dollar Listing, etc.) where the salespeople brag about the kitchens having all Miele appliances.

I assumed they were a reliable high end brand. Guess they are not.

I agree with this post. I have had many problems (immediately within the first few months) with most of my Miele appliances (oven range leaking gas, refrigerator ice maker not working, vacuum sealing drawer not closing). They are beautiful appliances but consistently unreliable. And to note, Miele customer service as gone downhill significantly and not the level of personal service they used to provide (these days you can reach an offshore customer care center). I have a 15 year sub-zero frig and wolf range in my new house and they have been working great since we moved in 2 years ago (but the Miele vacuum sealing drawer we bought broke within the first 5 months...go figure).

I bought a Miele dishwasher in April 2024 for over $1,600. Since then, it has broken five times with the same F11 error code. Each repair requires weeks of waiting, only for the same problem to return.

Miele representatives told me that after three identical failures, the issue could be escalated for replacement. Despite this, Miele’s Quality Assurance Team keeps closing my case and telling me to repair the same defect again and again.

The dishwasher is currently unusable. The repeated outages—especially during holidays—have created real hardship for my family and unexpected expenses just to keep our household running.

This is not what anyone expects from a so-called premium brand. I have full documentation and videos of each failure. At this point, I would strongly caution consumers before purchasing a Miele dishwasher.

I replied on this post 3 years ago and our SZ (fridge & beverage fridge), Wolf induction range and Miele (DW, CSO & coffee ) appliances are now 4 years old. No issues with any of them.

Also had no issues with the Miele DW, CSO & coffee machine in my previous house.

A friend just installed all new Bosch appliances and is having major issues with the oven and minor issues with the fridge.

Kitchen renovation 10 years ago: SZ 42” FD fridge, Bosch 800 dw, Thermador 36” gas range top, and Miele double ovens (Combi Steam, and convection). All working as they should. One leaky hose at the dishwasher, the only repair in ten years. Would purchase all again in a heartbeat.

    1. Check that the drain pipe isn't clogged where it attaches to the garbage disposal.
    2. Fault F11 (G 1xxx–G 6xxx) - Instructions from Miele.
    3. Miele dishwasher does not drain - drain error - Follow these instructions first. Be sure to check that the ball inside the check valve is movable and that the impeller rotates freely.
    4. How I fixed a non-draining Miele dishwasher with fault code F11 - Check the condition of the O-ring if the previous instructions don't solve the problem.

@HU-969738863 - Have you spoken directly with a QA Team member about your case? How are you communicated with about your case being closed? I opened a case after my CSO of 8 years developed repeated upper heating element failures. After 4 failures in a little over 1 year Miele deemed the oven not repairable when I asked for a goodwill repair in just over 3 months of the last repair. I worked with a QA team member on an acceptable solution where I received a replacement oven for a very good price. My oven style was discontinued but they still had ovens in their warehouse. Since yours is still under warranty you certainly have a case for a free replacement. Have you contacted the dealer who you purchased the oven from and asked them to work with their rep to help you out?

I have 3 Miele ovens (wall convection, speed, CSO)and 2 Miele dws (in two different homes). All except the original CSO have been work horses. I did replace the check valve in my dw a few years ago (a $35 part that I could replace).. The ovens and dw in my primaty home are now approaching 10 1/2 yesrs of operation.
