Master Bed/Bath

Our 4/2 home is a ranch style from 1964 and has a great layout that we love. We renovated the whole house and now it’s time to do the bedrooms and baths. We’ve been living in our home for 7 years and we are still unsure on what’s the best layout to go with for renovating the bedrooms.

Quick details:

  • 3 bedrooms are roughly the same size. Bedroom 4 in front of home is smallest.
  • Current Master bath is the smallest of the 2. Approx size is 5x9ft
  • Current master closet is standard size for older homes.
  • Bathroom 2 is good size for secondary bedrooms to share.
  • Neighborhood homes are all similar and built by the same developer in the 60s. They are 4/2 or 3/2 and layout varies here and there but overall similar to ours. Some are remodeled and others are still original.

We are considering incorporating bedroom 2 to the master bed (bedroom 1) and making it into a walk in closet. Then extending the current (bath 1) all the way to closet area. It would be a long and narrow bathroom but larger shower and vanity. This option would make our house a 3/2 but with a better master bed and bath. Does this make sense? Open to any ideas.

The other option is to remodel bedrooms and baths “as is” meaning cosmetic, and keeping the same layout and footprint.

We are NOT open to building a home addition as this option would be too costly and not worth the return.
