The freeze is predicted here too starting tonight. One night they say it may get down to 24 and then bounce back up to 84 the next day. That's a 60 degree variation. WOW!............ I've always liked JT Davis. It looks really pretty in your picture. I still have Mary's Baby and Joan Senior blooming, but no time to take pictures.............That Clematis is spectacular. Never seen any like it. It does resemble a passion flower somewhat.......Maryl

JT Davis was nice here this past year. It is short by nature, and a bit shorter here in the North. Not wholly reliable here, but it bloomed well, and I like the yellow contrasts with the white.

I was planting seedlings and new daylilies all day yesterday, trying to get them in the ground before the freeze. But we didn't get to 32 last night as predicted, only 36. I hope the forecasters are wrong about tonight and tomorrow night. It's been almost 40 years since Nashville has had a freeze this early. Today the high was supposed to be 40, but now they're saying 53.

J.T. Davis is a beautiful flower, especially for October. How does Soli Deo Gloria perform for you? It's never done much here and is almost always splotchy.. I don't remember it reblooming for me. The iris and roses are gorgeous. I've never seen a clematis like that around here. It is pretty. The only things I had blooming as of yesterday were a pink daylily seedling, a Japanese anemone, wild ageratum, white wood asters and a red chrysanthemum that has bloomed here in the ground for the past six falls (two thirds of it died inthe drought). I've been too busy digging out plants for move-out, culling seedlings and planting new ones to take pictures this month.

Nice to see some blooms, Kate. I have Autumn Joy Seedum too. I also have one rose bush and it is still blooming in spite of the cold. Will see what happens tonight after upper 20's temp. I also had Great Blue Lobelia until a few days ago. It bloomed itself out. It grows down by the creek in the shade. I didn't plant it. It just appeared about 3 or 4 years ago, and there is more every year.

Colchicums [Fall Crocus] also just finished about a week or so ago.

Maryl, JT Davis is a prettty bloom. Mantis is right. It does bloom short. And that clematis was stunning.

Debra, I was with you on planting yesterday! Some of those were yours which looked great. Soli deo Gloria is splotchy. The reblooms looked better. Overall, not an impressive plant.

Brad, I like your fall plants. So pretty! Is the lobelia a native plant?

Kate, I guess lobelia is native. I have no idea how it got there, just suddenly appeared!

Some nice beauties to end the season. I have a clematis that looks similar to your beautiful purple one. It was a recent addition here and did great this season, will have to post it next summer

Mantis - I agree about Soli Deo Gloria's slow multiplication. I've had it for three years, and it's never multiplied past the original two fans.

I always liked the pictures of Soli Deo Gloria, but never tried it. Emmerich's winter hardiness with my pot system (even for dormants) is hit or miss.......Well, here's the good news and here's the bad news. We had a hard killing freeze last night (28 degrees) and all my annuals that I had watered so diligently over our long long hot summer are toast. That's the bad news. The good news is that since the display is over, I don't have to water all those annuals..............All in all this has been one lousy gardening season - except for the daylilies which miraculously did better. Rebloom brought along taller scapes and bigger blooms AND even the rebloom itself was unusual here. So as I said, good news and bad news...................Maryl

It's nice to see some beautiful blooms so lake in the season.

It's been cold here during the day, but so far we haven't had a killing frost. It may be tonight though. I'm sort of anxious to get it over with so we can pull some dead weeds and clean up the beds before winter really sets in.

For those of you still looking, what do you think about this being Taiga clematis?

Frost/Freeze is bittersweet for me. Love that the pollen season ends, sad that the growing season ends.

Pretty daylily pics and that clematis is quite interesting. I thnk Taiga is similar to Passion Flower clematis. We have had frost/freezes here but still got blooms on several perennials. Temps going back up to 60/70's this week.
