Helping would be easier if you could post a thumbnail sketch of the floor plan.

Take overall dimensions of the entire room. Then start in the corner and go all the way around the room with all the measurements. Don't skip anything.

Make a list of all the furniture with the dimensions width x depth x height

Have you tried putting the sofas facing each other and the chairs facing the fireplace?? You might not have enough space for the foot stool.

You need color; the walls, chairs, fireplace, pillows are all a pale neutral and then you have wooden shelves and brown leather sofas. Find a nice piece of art for the wall opposite the windows or a large colorful rug for the floor and use colors in either of those for pillows.

Yep - agree with the above. The chairs are in the wrong location.

Based on what I see and a good guess? Find a new home for one couch. The room is choked . Put ONE sofa where you have the chairs and put the chairs at the window with table between. You probably have room for a third accent chair.

First buy is a rug. What size? Measure the room. Guessing? At least 8 x 10.

Yes, a rug is going to be a good choice, but what color(s)? Personally, I like greens and/or blues with Cordovan leather. And I hate to say it, but grey looks good with it too. You've already discovered creamy white does too. But what do YOU like? 

Yes, you could invest in a big piece of art opposite your window. Those are good ideas. You aren't as bad at this as you think. 

But tell us how well this room is functioning for you. Does the TV have glare on it from the window? Are there things you wish you had more of? Do you really need all that seating for huge family gatherings or committee meetings? Or did you recently down-size or merge households?

Beautiful room. Is this where you watch TV? If so if you move the sofa to the chair wall you may need a larger TV or an articulating arm. Another thing I see (and have not seen it before) is the fancy window trim. It is incongruent with the rustic beams.

I first saw this and like, wow beautiful! Why would someone want to change this? It's gorgeous and at the same time perfect for watching TV. One can stretch out on the one sofa by the window, which I love. I like the idea of sofas facing each other and two white armchairs -- which I love and seem to tie the room together -- side by side facing the fireplace with the coffee table in the center of the arrangement. Nice. A rug would be nice and cozy.

My question is what is behind the camera? I see two sets of chairs. Hmmm. A breakfast table or bar and dining table? A game table and dining table? It does seem like a lot of seating going on. Please add another photo facing away from the fireplace so we can get a context of the room and provide an informed opinion for a space that includes a family room.

Arrange the furniture as suggested, sofas oppose and perpenticular to the fireplace and two white chairs facing the fireplace with the coffee table in front. Get pieces of painter's tape and lay out a carpet area so the front legs of the seating is on the carpet. That is your size. Pick a

rug using the colors the one of three paintings I found. Make sure it has white in it to tie in the room. Hang the painting. I think these three things will make the room.

I would move the sofa by the windows to the wall where the chairs are and form an L with the other sofa. White chairs with backs to the windows (they won't block the view out the windows like the sofa does). With the sofa against the wall, you will .have a much easier time hanging a large piece of art on that wall than you would trying to hang it with the 2 chairs there. A pretty rug will pull it all together.

We definitely think adding a rug and some artwork would help make the place feel more like a home and family room. We also might suggest mounting the TV above the bookcase and then adding a piece of artwork above the other bookcase. Here are some ideas for you which might help more.
