Help with outdated bathroom

Bathroom needs a makeover. I cannot afford a complete renovation at this time. But was thinking of changing vanity, paint color, new shower/bath fixtures. For the life of me I am stuck on what will go with the beigy cream tiles. Would really appreciate your help.

Paint will help this space a lot. A much lighter color, a warm grey or greige. Paint the vanity if you can.

Do you have inspiration pics of what you like? I think many things will go with those tiles. I would also try to hang the curtain rod up high at the ceiling and get long shower curtains. Paint, a new shower curtain, and painting the vanity could do wonders without breaking the bank.

Thank you for comments any idea on Vanity colors.  Wood, white?

I think you did a good job with the current colors. I would look for a new shower curtain and use the colors in it as inspiration for new paint and maybe new towels. It looks like that's what you did last time. Either replace the vanity or just the top with a new sink. That's not a good picture of the faucet, but if it's not too old and still works, I don't think it needs to be replaced. The light fixture is good too.

Former shower curtain stylist here back when those color tiles were all the rage. I believe the color was called Fawn.

What colors do you like? Almost any color will go with your tiles.

Why not start by finding a shower curtain you really love and then work off the colors that are in the curtain? Then work from there.

As for vanity colors, again either wood or a warm white would work well. Just depends what you prefer.

Is the shower curtain that bad?  I previously had a chocolate brown one for 15 years and bought this one a couple years ago and was amazed at how it brightened things up.  Maybe you could throw some ideas my way.  I am not the best at putting things together in mind

No it's not bad at all but I was under the impression you'd like to bring some color in. Your shower curtain is very neutral.

    What style is your house?

What colors have you liked in the rest of your house?

Give me a hint and I can pull up some ideas for you. :)

Your tiles look a nice neutral beige, not too dark either. What you have now isn't bad, but you seem to want to change it. I think a new vanity would be a big change. I love crisp white vanities or wood with white countertop. I think either would look great in your space. I might try a light sage green paint color to bring in some more brightness with the neutral tile. But what do you like?

    agree w/cp.

    what style would you like?

Is that photo stretched? do you want to stick w/a single sink or go double?

what about the mirror and light?

vanity style and color? any preference? anything will go w/the tile, especially if you stick w/a shower curtain. That one isn't bad, but if you want to update and repaint, I'd do something else.

for instance, if you worked w/that shower curtain and tile, You could use these colors in the inset. Swiss coffee would be nice on the vanity , kendall charcoal on the walls (or vice versa)

Or, maybe this color? it will work w/the beige tiles. (I wouldn't do a bright white countertop though). Frame you current mirror that's there w/a warmer wood trim

You can actually paint your floor tiles and stencil them anything you like. (google it)

Or maybe you like something a bit more boho? you could do an offwhite vanity and a granite or even a wood butcher block

there are also things you could do to the current countertop you have, and paint the vanity.

what about black/white/wood? If you painted your vanity, found a remnant top, could you demo your own floor tile and put down something else?

are there any colors you prefer?

did you want a vanity that comes w/the countertop and sink? (they're usually around $750-$1300, depending on where you get it)

Have you checked craigslist for vanities? sometimes you can find some good deals

for example, checking my craigslist, this one is $600. (and you could always paint the wood if you don't like it) But it would work w/your tile

, this white 71" is 300 bucks, and the 48" w/the countertop and sink is also 300

For that white one, you could go to a stone yard/fabricators place and see if they have any leftover scraps from any slab cuts. sometimes you can luck out and pick up something for less than $100. bring your sink template w/you and have them cut the hole for you.

you can buy prefab vanity countertops, often w/sinks, but they will cost a lot more.

Floor tile, get a nice rug or look into painting the tile and stenciling.

Thanks for all your input. I have no idea what my style is. We bought our house new almost 20 years ago and nothing has been done to it. I feel like I am stuck in brown beige world. Meaning my house. I watch all those HGTV shows and love how light and airy the homes are. But in my mind I cant seem to put it together. I go to stores looking, I see things I like and then put them back. I second guess myself.

The vanity is 60" long. was hoping to keep the light, but a frame around the mirror or new mirror would certainly update things. I didn't realize that you could put so many different colors with that tile. I have tried other shower curtains, and also taken them back. i do like this color.

So it seems you like browns.

Are there other colors you like? What colors do you wear? And of the colors you wear, which is your favorite?

I wear quite a bit of black, blue, mustard, pink

It will help to put a coat or two of primer on the walls. The current color is affecting your vision and casting a golden hue on everything. Any color samples you bring into the room will not be accurate until the gold/tan is gone. If you are replacing the shower curtain, you might take it down also while you make decisions. Priming the walls will help you feel less stuck, because you will see progress. You can do this!

Gray, white and your light beige go well together, what I don't know is if this scheme fits with the decor in your house.

For the white shower curtain, I would choose one that has texture similar to the large scale sample shown.

I show your mirror framed in white (I've done this several times), I've kept your vanity light. You can either replace of paint your vanity but replace the counter top to white (material, quartz or melamine, to fit your budget).

As suggested by BeverlyFLADeziner just above, that is even a simpler solution than mine keeping the vanity as is. Change the hardware and faucet to black along with the countertop to a white one. Install a thin black frame around the mirror. Paint the walls white. Here's the look...

I think white walls and black accents could be nice. You could do only black, or you could mix in some gold, too, if you’d like. And the gold would also tie in with your current shower curtain. In the visuals below, I used light fixtures in black & gold. I like your other shower curtain choices, too, btw. And I also included a couple of other curtain ideas, just for fun.

And I agree that your current wood vanity is nice, and works fine. All you need is a new counter/sink.

Well I see Beverly is ahead of me with suggestions. I like her ideas for your shower curtain and it's obvious you picked up in the curtain the colors you like.

Blue can look good with shades of beige and white and get you out of the brown mode, so maybe there is a paint color or fabrics or both.

I love all the shower curtains you picked. I never would of thought of painting the walls white, or keeping the exiting cabinet. I do love the black hardware and light idea as well. Hopefully I can put this together as well as you all have. It is great to have other perspectives.

Priming the walls will give you an idea of whether or not you would like the walls white. It's a start...

    What condition is the vanity?
