Looks to me as if they've made the uppers the same width as the lowers. So the uppers on the left are 24" wide to match the width of the DW, and the uppers on the right are the same width as the base cabinet below. If they made the uppers symmetrical, then the lower cabinets would look "off" too.

I'd leave it be.

I would upgrade the design to have a panel next to the fridge and a cabinet above, it will look so much more finished, The only way to cure the symmetry 'problem' is to center the sink which will give you a larger filler next to the dw...

In a small kitchen i would certainly take assumetry over reduced storage. agree with cabinet over fridge to add additional storage. maybe that will make the assymetry less obvious too.

And smaller upper and lower cabinets to the right of the sink. Losing more space to fillers is not something you want to do in a 'very small kitchen'.

Nothing wrong with what you have. It is balanced. Symmetry can get boring.

In a very small kitchen, I would have suggested downsizing the sink. When I replaced my double bowl sink with a single sink, I bought a single in the same width as the old double bowl. Because I was not replacing the counter tops. I immediately saw that I could easily have stepped down from a 33" to a 30" or even a 27" sink if space was at a premium. With a single bowl, you don't have all of that space that is wasted to the divide in a double bowl sink.

There is no problem. It’s such an insignificant difference it doesn’t look unbalance or bad or off. No kitchen is perfectly center or symmetrical. The green is pretty, would love to see a photo!! 🙂

when i saw it in person i freaked out. it’s not done yet but here it is so far. im not a fan of tons of cabinetry and i have plenty of storage in a separate pantry. will be easy to balance the space above the fridge w a hefty basket for cook books or whatever. i think the sink is too “heavy” for smaller glass front cabinet so it’s not just asymmetry but rather the overall feel. i guess it’s too late tho! plenty of counter on the range side.

I think the cabinets look lovely! You probably could have reduced sink size a bit (not sure what size it is though) which might have helped your sense of balance, but the cabinets look fabulous! I think it will look great when finished.

You could change one of the sets of glass doors to solid doors. Then they’d be different widths and different styles so it might not feel like it’s as important that their widths match?

Leave it all alone. You won’t notice the “issues” once you’re living with it and have your stuff in there.

And do you have the necessary clearance on the right side of the refrigerator for the door swing? I also agree that no finished panels around the biggest beast in the room is a step backwards.

Not done yet. Looks great. Forgo the symmetry. There is no symmetry in your whole kitchen.

Love the color!!! Function is vastly way more important than balance and symmetry in a kitchen. The first time you make spaghetti and have a large stock pot and a large saucepan to clean up, you will be glad you have a big sink. What is your backsplash?

thank you! haven’t chosen backsplash yet. i’m realizing it’s less about the symmetry and more about the scale perhaps. the sink is 33 and feels overwhelming to the smaller glass front cabinet. however, the range will
be opposite and is 36 so maybe that will offset it. no uppers on the range side and
not worried about the above fridge cabinet. I’m not a fan of the built in look so i’ll just put a plant or some
cookbooks up there. i appreciate the positive outlooks from y’all!

The lack of symmetry is so hard to see that it’s not important. Small kitchens need storage and you’ve done a great job.

I predict your visitors will be struck by the GORGEOUS green! It’s a lovely kitchen. And the bigger sink is so much more important than a couple of inches lost for “barely noticeable” symmetry.

Keep going and finish the kitchen. Post “final photos” as well!

There seems to be plenty of space anyhow, and if any guest dares to point out that difference, they must have spent the last 15 mins diligently searching for things to "notice" about your kitchen (just to "help you out", of course)...

Your photo is at an angle. It obscures any asymmetry that is there. Is your photo taken at an angle because there is no place to stand to see the cabinets directly on? If that is the case…then no one will notice the asymmetry because there is no perspective from which it is obvious. Does that make sense? I hope so!

What brand of cabinets are they? Ask if they can do a 'wide stile' modification? If yes have the wall cabinet on the right side remade. The box of the right cabinet remains at 30" wide, but the opening is shrunk down to the size of a 27" cabinet (opening=24"). The vertical rail on the box is made WIDER...and then smaller doors attached. So you keep the storage. but the doors are the same size.

here's a quick sketch of what I said above.

Cabinet left is 27". Cabinet right is 30".

Cabinet on right has a WIDE STILE MOD...to 4.5" wide

Cabinet openings are the same: 24". Doors are identical in size.

But you'll have the 3" filler area exposed right. You can can get a filler overlay for that if it bothers you.

Nice thing about a wide stile is you don't lose that storage area.

No other way to do this unless you make both sides the same and adjust the size of the center cabinet.
