I will suggest removing the ceiling bulkheads. They add absolutely nothing to your room and quite frankly look odd and out of place.

Remove the rectangular soffits in the ceiling if possible. They aren't attractive. Since the room is already torn up now is a good time to do that. How big are those fixtures? How big is the table exactly? You might want to hang two fixtures.

One more voice to remove the 'decorative bulkheads.' They are making a mess of the room, chopping up the crown moulding and stealing attention in a not good way from the lovely windows. All of the trim around the windows and the crown are very traditional stylings and the bulkheads are some misguided attempt at Uber Modern. Not a good mix any way, any how. No point in new lighting if they remain because the light gets lost in the ceiling clutter.

When you think you have seen all the weird stuff in design/construction and then another comes along! "Decorative" is the last word I would use to describe those bulkheads.

Why are they there? The only acceptable reason would be if they are covering up pipes in the ceiling, but if that was the case, I would float out the whole ceiling in that area to make it all even.

If you cannot remove those bulkheads, paint them the same color as the ceiling. On my screen the sides of the bulkheads look like they are painted the same color as the walls.

If you are going to repaint, consider doing the ceiling a color and the walls lighter.
