It should not make a difference. What is the concern exactly?

It's fine. Modern dishwashers use flexible drain attachments anyway, so the only real difference is how much of your cabinetry is taken up by the drain. They can certainly reach that far, though. Put the dishwasher where it makes sense for your kitchen layout, and choose the sink that fits your needs.

I have the opposite, a left hand DW and my 30" single bowl sink has a drain in the right rear (also with a garbage disposal)

Seriously, not an issue. Yes, you have the DW drain hose going across the back of the cabinet, but it doesn't get in the way of anything. You've also got water connections going from the sink to the DW, so what difference does one more hose make.

One other reason for an offset drain is if you want to use a dishpan inside the big sink.

FWIW, we have a full-depth trash can on the same side as our dishwasher drain hose, so definitely possible, if not the easiest way to do it. The hose is pinned to the back of the cabinet to be sure that it doesn't interfere with the trash pullout, but otherwise it fits.

keep in mind that some sinks are reversible....so you can put the drain on left or right.

DW on left (under the drainboard) and drain on right-rear. Separate trash pull-out is on right. If I didn't have a 10" deep sink, I would still have room for a trash pull-out on my non drain side, even with the DW on the opposite side.

So many statements on these forums are so black or white, when the reality is a variable mix of gray! As the old saying goes, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Is there some reason for this configuration?

I ask because I specifically wanted a left rear drain sink WITH a dishwasher to the left because I am left handed.

If you want an offset drain - and they are great for freeing up usable space in the cabinet, why not get a sink with a right offset drain which would be next to the dishwasher on the right or have the dishwasher on the left like I do.

Funny, I'm right handed and wanted DW on left and drain on right!

It was a custom new build, so I could have done any configuration I wanted and the Julien sink can be ordered with the drain in 6 different positions. Many tasks are performed quite differently by each individual, so it isn't one size fits all.

Mine is set up this way and I have never given it a single thought until this post. Non issue for us.
