IMO open storage is never ideal it usually looks messy and really does not provide good storage. Can you post a pic of the whole space and for sure where the TV is if in this space .

Is open storage going to work for what you're going to put on it? I would get two of whichever shelf you decide on and put art to the left of it. It's OK if the chair overlaps the shelving a little bit. I just think one wouldn't look right.

Here is a different view of the whole room. Don't mind all the misc stuff, we just moved and still have stuff everywhere! The shelves on the wall will likely be more for pictures, etc. I am also considering a sofa table behind tge couch that would offer storage for things I wouldn't want seen. Including a few pics of what I'm thinking of for that as well.  They are all about 12" deep so hopefully not to bulky for behind the couch.

I don't think this room can handle another storage piece. Great job with the TV and console proportionately. It looks good. I would box up all the misc stuff by category: pictures, knickknacks. Then sort. Right now you have too much stuff for the size of the room. What sort of pictures do you want to display? Photos or art? Do you plan to get a rug?

@jck910. Yes, I do plan to get a rug and possibly a small coffee table for in front of the couch. For the walls I have one framed 8x10 piece of art that I plan to put up, the rest is small  framed family photos. So you think putting shelves on that wall (like the ones I attached) would be to much ? What would you do with that wall?

I truly would not be thinking about what to hang on that wall until all my furniture, rugs and window treatments are in place. I would re-evaluate all the stuff as I mentioned in my earlier post. You really to take the approach less is more in a small space
