Inspiration needed!

This is the living room view from the front door. I’d love so ideas/inspiration to make this a cozier space. Layout is difficult with the entrance to the kitchen to the left and dining room on the back left. We are looking for a comfortable modern vibe.

Any and all ideas welcome!

I would suggest you try this arrangement. Position the rug in the middle of the room, using the window as the center point. Add one more couch, bench under window, and have the two chairs with backs to the front entry. You don't have a fireplace, so the window is your focal point, so find another spot for the shelving. Another thought...get a good pad for the rug

I think your dining table is either positioned incorrectly, or it is too large for the space (we can't see). The dining chair shouldn't encroach on the living area. Nor should the rug encroach on the entry.

I would add a bit more softness and color; perhaps take an accent color from the dining room, which we can’t see and use it for pillows or other accessories. I would also add some soft drapery panels to frame your window and hang them high on the wall. You might also try a softly patterned rug.

I would prefer more color, so I would put a large colorful piece of art over the sofa. What you have there seems a little small for the space, and hung too high.

I agree with all above comments and might suggest adding a bigger couch on the wall.

Agree that neutral stationary curtain panels could add a lot of softness to the room - and I think the coffee table is maybe a little undersized?

the other thing I notice is all of the furniture in the room is very leggy, which takes away from a cozy feel - wonder if incorporating some softness with different/additional chairs that are more like the inspo photos posted above would help? Great room with lots of nice light -

I hate fake drapes get ones that could possibly close so 2.5 x the width of the rod. I think a more colorful rug would be where I would start Right now the coffee table is useless to use so move it closer to the soafa and do a table between the 2 chairs maybe a battery opered LED lamp between the 2 chairs .Maybe an arc lamp to light the center of the space so hanging over the coffee table and a proper lamp on the end table .This rug could work then a couple of pillows with color from the rug and I would do nice blue drapes and a much larger piece of art hung 6 " above the back of the sofa .

    A few questions….
Do you live in a climate that stays green all year?

If not, when the leaves fall, what do you see?

This will determine what window treatments are needed.

The pillows on the window sill and entry table don't belong. It looks like they are put there because there is no space on a chair or sofa. The bookcase looks crammed into the corner. It needs to be treated as a piece of art maybe centered on that wall or changed to the entry table space. Some of the pictures could be hung on the wall spaced to make a larger design of squares.

I think the furniture should be closer together. I'd try a sofa table (maybe the one in your entryway just to see if you like it) behind the couch. Good lighting. I think you need one big statement art piece over that couch. Center the bookcase on that wall. Def a rug pad, looks like a trip hazard. Honestly, I'd look for a statement rug like the one shown by Patricia and relocate the one you have perhaps to a bedroom. I would also do drapes to bring in more textile to the room.
