In the living room, you need a focal point. Do you have anything to display so that bookshelves would be useful? Were you planning on having a TV in that room?

If you don't need shelves or a TV in this room, I would move the white sofa against the wall and put a large piece of art over it. Move the other sofa where the white one is and get two armchairs for the side closest to the dining room. This picture isn't exactly it, but hopefully it is close enough.

If that bench is not in the way it feels like it is in the way...please move it. Your foyer decor should be on the wall to the right of the door as you enter the house. Center your console on the opening into the living room. Center a runner rug in front of it parallel to the wall. Put the bench under the console table with a gallery wall of art and mirrors would be pleasant.

I would consider leaving the furniture in the living room as is and place a tall bookcase against the wall between them facing the entry. It would counter-balance the weight of the foyer decor and provide a focal point. Stack some coffee table books and add decorative items from your travels in it.

Hang a charming picture on the wall to the left of the door as you enter, as something nice to be the first thing one sees.

I should clarify and say the charming picture on the left wall FACING the front door...not the same wall as the door. You know what I meant I'm sure, but I just re-read my post and saw how it might be ambiguous. I'm glad you are considering my ideas. Have some fun!
