Start by laying out furniture in all the spaces to scale. Then determine where light is needed. Then layout a lighting pattern that most closely meets your lighting need based upon the fixtures you plan to use.

generally divide the height of the ceiling by two... 8' ceilings 4 feet between lights.

Sconce lights, lamps, floor and table, and picture lights (if you are accenting art.

Generally people don't have enough lighting to make a room look and feel great.

more is better, especially if you separate the circuits, and make them dimmable.

Wall washing is a great option, even light grazing if you have interesting textures to highlight.

I am all for wall washing and highlighting art, it all adds a mood to the finished room.

This appears to be a basement buildout. I would assume 6" size fixtures have been chosen for budget reasons. So, using ~1000 lumens (they have ~800 lumen 6" fixtures, but if you want that then go to a 4" size can), they should be spaced around 5'-6' apart for general lighting of a space. However, each space should be evaluated on it's own.

- For the Kitchen, I see 5 fixtures: (2) flanking stove, (1) at sink, (1) next to sink throwing to door, and (1) in front of ref.

- For the Living, I don't see space for a Dining table, so if you want recessed in there a (4) grid will avoid the only couch placement and be somewhat flexible to the rest of the space.

- For the Bathroom, (1) in Laundry and if no wall mount over vanity then (1) there. Then a combo fan/light for shower which is in the same genre as 6" cans.

- For the closet just (1), but a flush ceiling fixture would throw more light to the top shelf better.

- For the bedroom abstain, but if you must, a grid with (2) over potential nightstands and (1) by the window, (1) by the door aligned with window would be ok.
