Hi Teresa, my name isn’t one you’d remember because I’m a relative newbie. I ththink you may find that many people on the forum (ken included, I believe——he’ll correct me if I am wrong), don’t use Facebook any more due to security concerns, ads, or whatever personal reason they may have. Very strange——once I commented in the forum, the ability to comment here in houzz app came up. It did not show before…..go figure!

It's my opinion that poor ratings on search engines are the reason we do not get many new members. When, on a late spring day, "back when", we'd get a page full of new inquiries about hosta problems and questions. That was because we came up at the top of search engines. Houzz doesn't come up in search engines about hosta. So, we don't get a new crop of posters every year.

The AHS Facebook page has close to 67,000 members. Yesterday the old Hosta Forum came up so I did a stand alone thread asking people what their monikers on the old forum were.

Quite a few people responded but quite a few could not remember their names! LOL

I am still in touch with Andrea - I even named one of my seedlings after her. Ademink is in the Hosta Library. I am also in touch with Jennifer from Wisconsi, - aka_margo, Hosta Red - Gloria from Chicago, Apollo T Wibbles - Karen from Wisconsin. Dear Westy - Carol Westgaard from Chicago died a few years ago.

That seemed to post okay. I wonder if it didn't post before because I had included photos. This is my seedling ademink, now in the Hosta Library. She is fluorescent in the spring and slowly changes to green. I finally split her last spring and sent a chunk to her namesake.

I do both and check almost daily. I think I get more useful informatio here (garden web/houzz) than on FB. I do miss some of the old-timers here and their wisdom.

Thanks for weighing in. The two places definitely have different flavors. It is kind of hard to capture the same comradery when we have close to 67,000 people.

LOL. One would think you would remember opening a package with a Pez dispenser! But, I think many of us have reached that point in life where many of the highlights of our lives can't be remembered!

Clausa is a blessing when used correctly.

what other hosta will survive and thrive as a ground cover this way.

and the flower color is rarely matched, except maybe the red seiboldii, which arent stoliniferous and has a similar leaf shape and color.

When used correctly? Whoa! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Clausa is an ugly hosta in my opinion. There are much better ground covers like creeping thyme, Dutch clover, Vinca and Black Scallop ajuga which I utilize on my hilly property.

Ken - in case you missed it I will reiterate "I continue to curse you every time I beat back the clausa!" LOL

@ademink is there such a thing as an evil spirit Pez dispenser? ;-)

In response to Teresa - Hello. I am a member of the Facebook AHS page. However, so much incorrect information is given on Facebook that I have quit reading it let alone posting in it. I do occassionally read the MHS, Minnesota Hosta Society, Facebook page. I have been busy this past couple of years taking care of my parents etc so I haven't been posting much here either, but I do come here to lurk once an a while because I can actually find a discussion and read it and get some inspiration.

now that the pic i always wanted to take ... somehow the flowers remind me of lipstick.. i have no idea why ..

The alphabet is the best everyone showing realist pictures in their garden. every letter has a gem or two in it.

I resisted going on Facebook. I am now a member of it. It's nice to see pictures of hosta and the different gardens and ideas that people have. I don't like the format though and having to keep clicking on other comments. I much prefer this forum.

I agree with Beverly that there is so much incorrect information on Facebook from the members. For example, when a poster asks about overwintering pots, there are a number of different responses. One response, for example is: "I just leave them where they are. I've done that for years and have no problem whatsoever. They all come back." No mention is made of the size of the pots nor the gardening zone nor the potting media. People on Facebook can be all over the world and yet many of them do not mention their zone or location.

So, overall, I find Facebook entertaining, but frustrating. I tend to rely on information provided by those members who I know are experienced at hosta growing. The problem is that I don't know of many of those named members. So I can't rely on many of the comments I read or receive.
