Need help with art grouping

3 years ago

Our recently purchased townhome has a transitional style (mix if traditional pieces and mid century modern). We have these 2 framed giclee prints that we love on either side of the tv, but we feel the grouping is sparse. Any suggestions that woukd not make the grouping too ”busy”?

    Great-looking room!

    I like art around a TV (there are only two of us here who do, maybe three), so would possibly put another piece you love above it.

    Besides just loving art anyway, I enjoy having something nice to look at when the TV is off.

    That said, I don’t think yours looks empty now. Maybe cut out a piece of cardboard or paper and tape it there to see what you think (and experiment with placement and sizes).

    ETA: Love your vintage chest as a TV console! Beautiful. I use an antique Jacobean buffet for mine.

    I think the issue is the three stark rectangles against the light wall. I would pull a unifying darker blue from the art and paint that wall. Once the sharp rectangles fade into a darker background,it will be perfect. If you still feel it needs something try a live fig tree in a brass cache-pot in the left corner to add the same bling as the lamp on the right..

    I think perhaps dropping the prints a few inches might work a smidge better. Hard to tell from just this one angle of course. They feel high to me.

    It does look fine but testing out more shapes to hang is never bad. :) Nature abhors a naked spot on a wall after all. Finding things to hang over a TV in a more formal room is difficult though because art is rarely shaped right.

    I agree with Fori. Just a tad lower and closer to the TV and I
    Think you will see a more pleasing grouping.

    I love your art and your room. I wonder how a navy accent wall might be behind the tv? I feel like the print on the kitchen wall distracts a bit. Is there another place for that?

    Just move the art a bit closer to the tv and a bit lower…add fig leaf tree or large plant in the corner..pull the blue chair into the room a bit more away from corner turned out towards sofa….pull floor lamp more to the side of chair..

    How about painting that wall a dark blue from the rug? Move the wood chairs to either side of the chest. Move the occasional chair to the left of the sofa to view the TV.

    Your room has such a calm, serene feel, not sure about an accent wall, big tree, etc.

    What is on the other side of this room?

    Not crazy about accent walls…if going to paint go all in and do the entire room…maybe a gallery wall..if you have other art to display….would work really well with your mix of furniture.

    Lovely room. I agree to just put them a bit closer.

    I like the paint color. Can you please share?

    Friday, my fellow art lover, that’s an interesting idea. I like it.

    What do you think of that set-up with one above the TV, too?

    @Jilly

    I don't know that I like the look of another piece of art above the tv with the setup I purposed. I would opt for a wall sculpture instead.

    Friday, thanks!

    I was thinking something smaller and more horizontal. My collage tool is acting wonky today, so I can’t do a mock-up!

    Re: the ubiquitous fig tree in a corner as decor … hope the OP has a very green thumb! I do, but have never been able to grow them well.

    If a plant is an idea the OP likes, there are lots of other good choices.

    @Jilly

    No problem. Were you thinking something like this?

    Yes, thanks, Friday! You’re my art guru. :)

    I love art galleries around TVs.

    Curious to know about the rest of the house, especially what rooms are connected to this one.
