Choosing between two layouts

Either layout could be changed. We are considering moving our kitchen to an adjoining room when we renovate. We have plans for both the current space and the new space. The new space would allow for an L shape kitchen. The current space is very broken up by many doorways and windows.

Please post a drawing of your home's existing floorplan so we can see how these spaces relate to each other. I'm confident that we can work together to come up with something much better.

I assume in the bottom drawing there are skylights where the rectangles are ? IMO the original space is not bad but that layout is horrible . I aslo do not think you have the space for an island in the new space if that is a wall on the right . IMO a perfect spot for a really nice galley kitchen. I do however need to see the to scale floor plan of the original space showing every windoe doorways where the doorways lead all measurements clerly marked and then see what can be done . BTW the drawing you show look like pland from a cabinet shop so stop right now ans wait to see what can be done by pros here .

Thanks for the feedback.! What’s the easiest way to have plans drawn up? Do I need to hire a designer?

I’ve had a number of contractors look at the current space and everyone thinks that this is the only possible layout so I’d love to hear any suggestions on how it could be improved.

There are no skylights in the room. I think you might be referring to the windows but I’m not sure.

Here are some additional images. The first two are of the old spade and the second two are of the new space.

It’s a center hall colonial that was built in the 1940s. It’s been expanded but these two spaces were in the original house. The “new” space is the In the original formal living room (the only living room). It is on the left as you go in the front door. The stairs are straight ahead from the door. On the right is the “old” kitchen space. It’s the one with lots of doorways. It was originally two separate rooms. The front part was the dining room and the back part was a small galley kitchen. Previous owners took down the wall between the two small rooms (that is where the peninsula is in the drawings of the “old” space).

I will see if I can draw up some plans.

The two spaces are next to each other but can’t be combined. To explain further, the wall where the fridge and wall ovens are in the old space and the blank wall in the new space are separated by stairs.

Please include the entire first floor layout. It's best to look at everything in context as there might be more options you haven't considered.

Both of these layouts have sink in a weird location and dw in the middle of the prep space. i would also not find 38” sufficient in front of stove. post a full measured layout and maybe someone can help and i’d certainly hire a KD.

Do you have a dining room or will your only dining area be with the kitchen?

If we move the kitchen to the new space then we will have a dining room in the old space.
