House is about 100 years old; i believe the second story siding is cedar shake of uncertain age, but old enough that contractors are suspicious for asbestos under there. The paint is 8 years old. There's quite a few damages shakes, the paint looks bad in many areas, and yesterday a big piece of rotton trim from under the eaves fell down. Do I repair or replace the siding? Replace with what? There is a flare detail at the bottom that i've tried to show in the second photo. The trim will need attention too of course.
