I would add:

(a) that the front-to-back depth needs to overlap any pans in front that need a hood to capture their cooking plumes. More than 18 inches is desirable, but few want the large wood structure that this requires. More "svelt" is Patricia's preference for all metal in such sizes.

(b) that a decent quality exterior blower is not necessarily noisy. Mounted on a wall in SF, 6 ft from your neighbor's window might be considered (at least by your neighbor) to be bad manners. On a roof in a 100-foot lot among other 100-foot lots, probably hard to notice if there is any traffic or local a/c noise. I have the Wolf (Broan) 1500-CFM rated model on my roof, and I can, if I listen carefully when standing in my yard, determine that it is on.

my house is more than 20 ft from my neighbors

Proline is a lot cheaper for the same spec. i am more interested in that.

Just trying to aid insight about what is generically true of hood systems. I don't have a Proline, haven't owned a Proline, and hence cannot provide comments specific to Proline.

appreciate your input even though its not about proline. I am considering your point about the difficulty to clean a wood hood. wouldnt it be difficult to replace or repair hood behind wood? thanks

I believe Patricia noted that the wood hood may pick up grease (particularly if it isn't big enough) that may be more difficult to clean than a metal hood. (My hood is metal.)

Hoods do not normally require repair. I suppose if an internal motor is used it might have to be replaced every decade or score of years. Sometimes the electrical parts controlling the motor and/or lights may need something. These will be just about as difficult to deal with when the hood exterior is metal as when it is wood, all else about the design being constant.
