To me, it looks like they just ran out of material and used wire mesh on the straight run, and again wire mesh in the corner where they did not want to properly cut the gutter guards.

The contractor said the mesh is there purposely "because water travels faster in those areas so we add mesh so it allows to go in the gutter better than shooting over.. "

Sounds off to me, and the other area they did for us does not look like this.. the other area is on a lower part of the roof that's visible, unlike this section.
