The room is not terrible. Before you invest in a stacked w/d, do you take the clothes out of your current dryer and fold them on top of it? You will lose that surface if you go to a stacked set or unit. I see an area above your current machine-does that work for hang drying?

I don't fold on top of it now, so that's not really an issue for me. I'm more of a fold on the couch kinda person. :) The current hang dry area is fine, although you can't put anything longer than a short t-shirt up there, so not ideal by any means. My biggest complaints are having to close the door to get to the washer, and having to close the washer lid to get to the cabinets.

You could look at switching the swing on the door to the kitchen and moving the cupboard to either above the dryer or above the sink.

@spiritflower's tips are spot on. If you need more hang room, you could also consider a retractable line over the sink, or a fold-out rack. Small space solidarity!

Replacing the machines with front loaders will allow you to put a counter on top of the machines, which will give you much-needed workspace. You have plenty of room to put a cabinet above the sink to increase storage.

I would absolutely change the swing on the door and then give the room some love - some fun wallpaper, organizing baskets, bright rug, etc -

its a great size with a lot of utility - some thoughtful additions will help it shine

I’m not sure of your budget, but could you move the machines, getting stackables, to where the sink is now, then a base cabinet under the window, with a sink at the right end? and a cabinet above the sink? Then, where the washer is now, you can have either a storage cabinet or open storage, hooks for cleaning tools, etc.

Can you do bi-fold doors and a stackable set? It might be worth looking into.
