NO open shelving next to cookind appliance they will be grubby all the time , please take that crown down thre it looks silly. As for the tile I would do the whole wall and with matching grout since you have no baclsplash anywhere else make this a real statement . I would do alrge format glass but since gottage is what you want then just 3x6 subway style BTW I see not much cottage about this kitchen so not a huge deal for me to go a bit more modern with the cabinets and hood so maybe test the bigger tile and see What do you mean by solid sheet no seams what is that?

I am looking to use a tempered glass backsplash. Overseas this is seen as the medium to use versus small tiles. Some people refer to it as a dream wall. As it is open to most of the house wanted the feeling of the wall but functional. Sorry if not explaining well. I have added pics to orginal post

I think the small shelves look fussy/undersized and would remove those — I don’t mind the hood (although i personally like chunkier looks) I would just fix the crown. I am usually not one to tile the full wall in a kitchen but i think it could look cohesive/simple on this wall - find some inspo photos of your hood style and see what you like

ETA - if tempered glass then i would run the glass to the bottom of the hood - specifically to the tallest part of the hood’s arc
