Baby quilt I made

last modified: 3 years ago

I am not really a quilter, just a sewer, but a granddaughter is on the way so I made a quilt for her.

That is adorable, but you are wrong. You ARE a quilter! And to the Debby Downer questioning the use of it as bedding, obviously, babies use blankets for many things besides nighttime covers. Bundled in a stroller or in someones arrms, or under them on the sofa or floor, etc. It’s so gorgeous I would probably use it as wall art.

Your family is just the luckiest -- to receive such wonderful hand crafted gifts. I bet they don't even realize that not everyone is so fortunate.

No, Annie. I have a small home embroidery machine. Biggest design size for it is 5 x 7 inches.

arcy, quilts and blankets are used everywhere that they have always been, of course: playmat on the floor, cozy cover on Grandma’s lap, and of course for covering the crib, like a bedspread, when baby isn’t sleeping. My baby quilt became a topper on my bedspread when I moved to a bed, then was my lap blanket for tv and reading. And DS’s crib-size quilt became a window covering when his window in the new house proved drafty! Baby quilts are forever and everywhere!

Rose, that's a beautiful quilt, and you are a quilter now, and a good one. Arcy, they keep changing the rules and recommendations for babies, so I don't know what's allowed or when. I suppose I'll learn some new things when my great-grandson gets here.

Your quilt reminds me very much of one my mother and I put together for my first grand son, her first great. She embroidered all the animals and I sashed as you did only in blue. Sadly, she died a few months before Adam arrived. I know the quilt has been saved.

    I love your version.
