Was this feature tile a mistake?

Hello,

Moved to this new construction unit months ago. Being overwhelmed and design challanged we went along with vendor recommendations. We were happy with just about everything except this mosaic tile over the kitchen sink. The showroom designer thought our all white kitchen needed to be "jazzed up" and thought this was a good idea. None of the other kitchens in our community have a feature tile over either kitchen or stove and I like the look better. My husband does not want to spend the extra to have it removed but I

think it looks odd.

The feature is not the most egregious mistake I’ve ever seen on this forum. But, I don’t know why you’d want to draw attention to the sink area, especially when it’s partially blocked by an ordinary faucet.🤷🏻‍♀️

Actually, the color and pattern are quite pretty. And, since the tiles are petite, it doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. It kind of recedes into the white surroundIng tile. In retrospect, it’s fine.

As @sheloveslayouts pointed out, the undercab lights on either side of the sink, do seem to be different temperatures. The left light is giving off a bluish tint…while the one on the right is yellow. And, good question…is there an undercab light to light the sink?

The undercab lights can be adjusted to all match. same tints,i didnt realize when I took pic they were set different. No I dont have undercab light over sink, just recessed lighting over sink but obviously not enough.. Something to consider, Thank you!

I think the tile is pretty and subtle enough to not really influence the overall look. your kitchen is nice!

I appreciate that its not yiur favorite, though. If it bothered me I wouldnt change the tile, but i might try hanging a neat, large wooden cutting board or not-too-precious art/ photo on canvas behind the sink with command strips/hook.

I think it looks nice actually. probably no one here would have advised it, but looks like there is an otr micro near it so seems like a nice feature to draw your attention to rather than that Being the feature. The color/pattern choice is actually quite well done!

I like it! I'd rather look at pretty tile than a plain blank wall. But yes, you need undercabinet lighting over the sink.

I agree that it’s quite nice and very subtle. From your title I was expecting something that jumped out & dominated. Nice that you don’t have the same as everyone else! Brighten that under cab / over sink light & you’ll surely be surprised at the positive difference.

For a feature tile, it's not bad, I would leave it.

    I think it looks nice.

Having to add something to jazz up an all white kitchen means your initial choices were poor. The accessories and finishing touches should enhance what is already there, not attempt to distract you from boring finishes.

Shady throwing shade. I think it looks nice. I like your blue cabs too. Don’t doubt yourself. Enjoy your new kitchen!

I think the vertical orientation isn't the best use of that tile design. Especially when mixed in with horizontal subway. It also would have looked better without the vertical half cuts, which were unnecessary.

I thought the same thing that maybe it would look better horizontal but again I deferred to the showroom designer. I'll probally leave it alone for now and maybe grow to like it more.in time.

    Thank you all!

I don't mind it, but I would do what sheloveslayouts suggests and add something to break it up. The only thing that really bothers me about it are the dimensions (to my eye it is a rectangle inside a square, but maybe that's just the angle the pic was taken at?). I think if you had a decorative/functional something something behind and off to the side, it would take away some of the irregularity of it or make it look more intentional.

I think it looks nice and it’s more subtle than some things I’ve seen like it. Agree you need a light over the sink

go to michaels or do you have a tall skinny vase...put a few stems in the corner....seems like something is yet to be placed and your sink area looks uncluttered / so.....

add to the venue. there is a lot of height there you could install a wood floating shelf across if you felt like it ....kinda cool with the geometric tile in the background . shelf and ledge shown below.....even a bit of something floating there would up the eclectic vibe if you want.....I think you are fine.

I love the shelf idea.Great idea! Thanks so much

I like it vertical as it is. Goes with the flowing water theme.

It is lovely as it is. I like it and it does add a nice touch. Don't overthink it but as suggested, you do need lighting above the sink.

I’m not usually a fan of tile features, but I don’t mind yours at all. Given that your sink doesn’t have a nice view out a window, it gives a bit of interest. I agree that an under cabinet light above it would help a lot.
