Baseboard Heating vs. Gas Fireplace

In my basement, I currently have a gas fireplace and baseboard heating. I am doing a remodel of my basement and thinking about removing the baseboard heat and only using the gas fireplace.

The fireplace does a great job of keeping the basement nice and warm so I dont see the need for the baseboard units, but I could be missing something.

Is there any reason, anyone can think of that I should/would need to keep both?

Why remove a backup system that’s already there? What if something goes wrong with the fireplace for any reason (elevated levels of carbon monoxide etc.); then what?

We love our fireplace too, but it isn’t on 24/7, as your heat would be to maintain a consistent temperature.

My reason for wanting to remove them is because they are ugly, and I only use the fireplace to warm the basement, but you both bring up great points! i guess ill keep them :)

A dissenting voice, perhaps, but if you don't need those ugly, space-consuming, baseboard heaters and the basement is a single area adequately heated by the fireplace, then get rid of them!
