Front Door Placement

Hi All - We will be remodeling the exterior of our home. I would love to have a double front door. With keeping the location of the front door now, would a double front door be symmetrical? We’re meeting with a window representative this week to discuss the front as well.

Yes, as @millworkman said, why do you want a double door? How about just adding sidelights? It doesn't look like you really have room for a double door. You could remove the shutters and change the exterior color. Please no black windows. With the roof color and stone you have you could have a blue, green or gray exterior. Do you have any inspiration pictures? Do you have a color scheme in mind already?

Simply put, we just like the appearance of a double door. We thought about adding sidelights. On one side or possible both.
We will be removing the shutters and changing the exterior color. We haven’t picked color scheme yet. But we like colors in the below picture…
(We will be adding peaks above the front and garage)

Double front doors a pain in the butt. I would spend my money on something else.

Nice house!! See how you have your front door open and the full glass storm door lets in so much light? Will double doors let you do that? I think if you change the railing to one that has horizontal rails instead of vertical spindles, and make the entry more of a wow factor, you will get the desired effect.

Double doors are certainly popular right now, however as MWM said, they really aren't very practical as they tend to leak and have service issues.

Also, I'm not a designer, but I'm not sure if the architecture of your home is the best fit for a double door aesthetically. A sidelite or two would be a better option to add drama to your entryway IMO.

Lastly, keep in mind that either is going to be a very pricy proposition. Not only will a sidelite or double door push close to double the price of the door itself, but that opening will need to be re-headered which is a pretty intensive project.

I think if you shared a drawing showing all the changes and your vision for a double door, some might give better advice.

I like a double door entry - especially the half glass wood doors. Make sure the doors have similar number of lites as your new windows for continuity. If you are remodeling further think about moving the front steps to in front of the door.

Your home to too small in scale to handle double doors. You can have a single door with sidelights which would be more appropriate.

You might have the room to do a door like this with sidelights.

I think a door with sidelights would be better but I think the best thing would be to reposition your steps to directly in front of the door making them wider and winding a walk and landscape to the drive
