There will probably be several people who come on to advise you against doing tile in the kitchen when you have wood floors in adjacent rooms, but if you have it now and don't like it, then I think a porcelain slate look would be a good choice. In general, gray is a trend that has passed, but slate is classic. The other option would be to choose a greige tile so you span the gray and beige trends.

Be careful when choosing tiles as they all have undertones and you want to make sure the undertone of your cabinet color doesn't clash with the undertone of the tile. Also of course you need to look at it next to the existing wood floors it will be next to. While it's not a bad idea to have a general idea of the wall color you want, don't try to settle on that until everything is in place. Painting is the last step and there are hundreds of paint colors to choose from. In the first picture the tile is a little green which I wouldn't recommend, but it's still an attractive kitchen overall.

@kandrewspa thank you. Do you mean it would be recommended to keep the wood floors in the bathroom? We are planning to keep them in the kitchen. Our biggest issue here is that we have a 7 year old who uses this bathroom often and the wood floors dont do well with water standing on them. She does her best to clean up after herself and so do we but realistically water sits on them sometimes without us knowing.

@Chris H I just read your post & it does say you’re replacing wood floor in kitchen - suggest you edit your original post to correct the wording. Great that you’re keeping kitchen flooring in wood. Maybe think about using @kandrewspa suggestion of porcelain tile for that powder room floor. Since it can be seen from kitchen, it’s worth having nicer flooring.

Is there a "not" missing in the 2nd sentence of your first message? You are not replacing the wood floors in the kitchen but you want to replace the wood floor in the bathroom? By the time you get this all done, won't the 7-year old have gotten better at wiping up water? And you could put the absorbent mat next to the sink to help. Maybe the issue will take care of itself? Other than that, I think a nice black slate would work well next to a wood floor (it does in my house).

@KW PNW Z8 thanks for pointing that out. I updated it to include the fact that we are replacing the wood floor with wood floor again. @Andee certainly possible to get her to clean up more! In the meantime I think slate tile might be a good contender.
