Do they always look like this or can you line the panels up so they appear solid? What was your goal? light filtering, blocking, privacy?

I would remove them. It just doesn’t make sense to cover a door in this way, and they are not adding to your space.

I'm trying to understand what I'm looking at. Is that a slider door ? Do both sides open?

Maybe it's just the left side swings inward to open?

In all of those cases, I would not ever have a top-down blind especially one that covers the whole window. You have been steered really, really wrong (imho, and I'm not a pro). But if you relied on some salespersons advice, maybe you should give it a shot to call the business, tell a supervisor what you were told, and what you're hearing here (international social media).

If you chose them yourself, well, these are what you call "life lessons". I wish I could have back every nickel for all the dumb decorating decisions I've ever made. ;) (Edited to add that I didn't mean to insinuate your decision was "dumb"--it wasn't!! It's me that's made a number of dumb mistakes).

If you keep them then you have created a whole new problem: how to live with something inferior and unfunctional. Why torture yourself? I personally would rather have nothing on that window unless of course the sun blazes in. If that's the case, then I would look into window film to cut the glare, and then re-think what types of window coverings work on doors such as you have.

If those are sliders, then vertical blinds (the modern, current type) are a possibility, as are certain types of folding louvered plantation-shutter-like doors. I have seen those done very nicely on sliders. There are other options, too, I'm sure, but what you have doesn't work and I don't see how it ever will.

why blinds for a door?

1. is there that much of an issue w/privacy that you need those pulled down?

2. everytime you want to go out those doors you have to raise the blinds? that would be a big no from me.

3. get some drapes to soften the sides and keep the blinds pulled up.

you're cutting out light. if you really need privacy, lower them at night.

Ok I have zero problem with using blinds for a door. We have a roller shade over our slider and it's loads better than vertical blinds. The new apartment we lived in while we built this house also had a solar shade on the slider. Not really sure why a top down shade is any different from side to side.

That being said, your shades being striped already has a pattern. I'm not sure I would add to it. Anything you add will just add more visual distraction.

Depending on material maybe you could dye them all one color?

I know this is a horrible mock up. However, food for thought. I am not pushing any color either. I just thought I could provide a way to work with them. I like them and think they look nice iwth curtains and maybe a bit of a sheer curtain for texture and interest.

These curtains were not expensive either. I know, I think i made them way too wide!

The goal is for privacy at night. Not concerned with sunlight since those side does t get much direct light. They can be solid depending on how I move them up or downs

For me, this would come down to whether I use that door at all, or whether leaving them down all the time is an option. I would not want to raise and lower those every time I needed to use the sliders. (Anj, the reason it's different for me is that you have to fully raise them in order to use the door. The side to side options only need to be pulled back a little bit if you only stack on one side, and/or if you can operate each side independently.)

I like AK's mock up - the curtains add some nice color and softness. I see what you see with them on their own there....and I agree it's not really working. However I also understand you paid a lot of money and are trying to make it work.

I've been there. I had a custom shade made for a very wide window over my kitchen sink. Mounted it....and instantly hated it. I paid so much money for something that has never seen the light of day since. Live and learn.

If it's pure aesthetics, you can absolutely make them work. I like the direction ATK is going.

I would just keep them solid and up as much as possible, the stripe option is odd. Do you plan on going in and out of the door in the evening to use the patio or a grill? If so, I think you have a case to go back to the owner of the company because the salesperson sold you something that isn't functional.

We have roller shades on ours and we like them. But we have one panel per door and they are motorized.

The one wide panel across both doors looks odd. If you do not want to replace it then I would recommend adding curtains.

Not a fan at all of the stripy look and wonder what the purpose is for that design. But I think they look fine when they are solid. The draperies are nice, too, but I think they are fine without. They look clean and unfussy.

If the goal was just for privacy at night, if feels to me like the blind consultant was going for an upsell. Why would you need the light filtering properties of this zebra stripe at all? Seems like a regular solid blind in a color that you like when it's pulled down at night would be all you would have needed.

I think adding drapes to the sides helps them. But . . . for me, if I didn't like something I would not bother to throw good money after bad. Every time you see them you'll .remember that. Accept that the money spent on them is gone so wave it a fond farewell and get something that you will love--and take as much time as necessary since you have the windows covered now--and want. Buy those. Your home and .your happiness will be worth it.

What are other options if I do decide to replace them?

The blind consultant will need to advise you on what's best because of the heat vent that's right there.

You can look at lots of photos on Houzz to find out what you want. In the meantime, you have the privacy control you want at night - just don’t use the zebra function! And keep them raised during the daytime. Do you still not like the blinds even when they are not in zebra mode? I like the draperies, but if you don’t want any at all, then back to looking at photos of what you like, and then tell the blinds consultant what to sell you.

The blind consultant suggested what is there right now and I'm not sure his recommendations would be in the poster's best interest.

The heat is a big issue - right there. I have the same setup for my slider.

Truthfully, they are not that bad once you add the suggested curtains. They give a bit of character to the space.

Girl? im in the SAME POSITION.. had roller shades installed on two large windows and my sliding glass door.. problem is that theyre WAY too ”cool” to fit with my warm decor… i did try the sample piece ( a few of them, actually ) and i thought that they would be perfect.

well.. I sent an email to the designer who came to my home… i was polite and told her that these blinds just dont work and we would be open to any solutions…

Second: Beautiful, flowy curtains to soften up the hard lines of windows/doors… hopefully, this can ”hide” the blinds..

I'm wondering why you got one wide blind to go over 2 doors. I would have gotten 2 separate blinds, so that they function independently. Leave them closed and add drapes to the sides for a more finished look.

I'm thinking you were thinking it would look like this photo. But notice there are 2 blinds, not 1. Maybe you can exchange this one for two. The company you got it from may be able to resell it to someone with a single door the same size. Or maybe get a good crafty person/handyman to cut it in half (I know, probably not the best idea).

Another good option for sliders are the Vertiglide by Hunter Douglas. We have them on 3 of our blinds. One is room darkening for a bedroom and the other 2 are opaques for sun/heat control and privacy at night.

I wonder if the blind company could take the single wide unit and convert it into 2 separate blinds. That would minimize the "garage door" look, I think, and make them more functional as well.

Other option? Plantation blinds, matchstick blinds, open weave fabric drapes on a traverse rod, roman shades....

Change blind consultant. The person who advised you on this choice for double doors is not qualified. A single blind over double doors is not practical if you want to use the door. Also, the purpose of blinds is for privacy or to block the sun. The combination of solid & see-through stripes doesn’t adequately give privacy or block the sun. Fire that consultant.
