Taming a rangpur lime

Hey all,
So I thought I would ask this since I've been stabbed a few too many times. My rangpur lime has grown significantly in the last year and finally had to be up-potted, which led to it moving off of its convenient plant stand to a stand on the floor. (I want to get fruit from this tree, so I don't want to keep it small). My issue with this tree is that it has 2 inch thorns between every leaf and an accidental brush with it can leave you looking like you had a wrestling match with barbed wire. This is a pain since I have to reach past it to open the curtain or turn on its light. When it was smaller I tried trimming off all of the thorns, but it reacted badly. (I do the same with my makrut but it doesn't seem to mind, though it does have far fewer thorns). Does anyone have suggestions? I think trimming them all was problematic because prevalence of thorns just led to too much damage when I tried removing them all.
