Valley Nursery in Poulsbo always has a big selection of fuchsia starts available after their spring sale in March. Typically in 4" pots for $3.99 ea. and they will plant up the basket for you if you bring one in (or purchase one there). Around 20 or so varieties if memory serves :-) Sale ends this year on the 26th, so last week of March but still not safe to plant out at that time.

A ferry ride from Edmonds should not be too far a trek for you if you can't find anything closer. And it is an excellent nursery and well worth a visit anyway.

This weekend we're heading over to North Valley nursery. We generally buy 4 or 5 Fuchsia baskets, and this year we're trying to use starts and see if we can get nice, full baskets. We do have an unheated greenhouse where we'll hang them after potting until it's time to put them out. Any hints on growing them on to insure they get going? Type of Fertilizer? Soil mix?

We did not make it to Valley Nursery this weekend. Decided to be lazy slugs, sleep in and chill out on a snowy day.

@buyorsell888 This is a very interesting idea. If I understand, you buy in April of this year, hold them over winter and then pinch and pot them up the next year?

I meant for you to know for next year since they are all gone now.

I buy them every late March or early April and keep them in my greenhouse until late May.

I don't usually hold them over winter though I do some of my bigger pots, not the hanging baskets.
