Adding a dishwasher to a kitchen

Looking for advice on installing a dishwasher in a kitchen that did not previously have a dishwasher. Can it go under to counter if the entire cabinet box has been removed? I am unsure if it needs its own enclosure or can just be put into the space as it is. I see online that it needs to be at least 2” from a wall so if no enclosure will the heat/steam cause mold under the counter? Thanks!

How wide is the opening please and how far from the sink?

You would do best to show the photo to a sales person and get that opinion.

It doesen't look that difficult. I also think the mold issue could be a bit off. Dishwashers shouldn't have this issue. I;m on my 9th or 10th in 45 years and have never had a problem even with a situation like yours.

Buy a Bosch. I've loved mine. Never needed service, last forever, only have a second one because we sold the house with the first one. Might be a bit more upfront but you'll save in the long run. Sorry I can't answer your question though!

Is that a temporary support at the end of the counter? You will need a return panel to support the countertop on that end.

Dishwashers are sealed boxes, no steam escapes except where it has vents, either the top or bottom of the door. For cleanliness reasons you want the left side closed off with plywood. Put the shutoff and electric outlet in the cabinet not behind the dishwasher.

how long of a cabinet run are you working with between sink and stove. Take some time and price out replacing this stretch w some Ikea base cabinets and get everything arranged better. the cabinets you show..and the counter, as well, dont owe you anything. You can get Ikea counters too. Not costly. plain vanilla style Ikea

looks like you have something w the stove protruding...you can install cabs out from the wall some inches to to reduce the difference and get nice deeper counters

All drawers if you do replace. 36" is the widest choice IKEA has.

    • The opening must meet the height, width, and depth requirements of the dishwasher's specs.
    • The Bosch SHEM3AY52N and SHE3AR72UC are high-quality, white dishwashers that appear to be reasonably available and priced ($550 at Home Depot).
    • The dishwasher will be attached to the underside of the countertop. The countertop must be firmly supported and not flex or move.
    • A right-side panel that supports the countertop must be strong, and firmly attached to the floor and countertop to support the countertop.
    • An additional panel to the left of the dishwasher opening would reduce dishwasher noise. It would need cutouts at locations shown in the instructions for electrical cables and plumbing.
    • A dedicated electrical circuit with an outlet within reach of the dishwasher's power cable is needed.
    • A replacement valve with connectors for the sink and dishwasher supply lines will be needed.
    • If the sink has a garbage disposal, it probably has a knockout connector for a dishwasher drain tube. Be sure the drain tube is routed with a high loop.

If the cabinet box has been removed, you can install a dishwasher under the counter. Water conditioners can reduce mineral buildup, whereas water softeners can completely remove hard water minerals.
