pony wall details??

I know this is an old photo but I LOVE this bathroom and especially the details. Any chance you can tell me exactly what is happening on the top surface of the pony wall? Is there wood trim on the near side and marble slab on the shower side? How do those meet? I am wanting to do something very similar with wainscoting transitioning to subway tile.
