10-years dated look. But setting thst aside, a PITA to deal with - barn doors are noisy, no matter what the salesperson tells you about ”quiet wheels”. But most of all, the look is the antithesis of the bathroom you show with its tub, flooring, chandelier, and fixtures. There is not one ounce of rustic in your pictured bathroom. But a barn door, by its very nature, is an attempt at a rustic look.

Barn doors don’t mitigate bathroom noise-anyone in the master bedroom and the adjacent hallway will know what you’re doing in the bathroom. You might consider a proper, transitional style solid core interior door instead.

Unless you are transitioning your bathroom into a barn or stable, skip the barn door. Just because the room might be big enough for a horse, does not mean get a door for one. Get a proper door meant to be in a house instead.

For those who answered no, basically it's everyone here. Do you have any recommended door styles for barn door?

Unfortunately, I'd like to stick with barn door, as the opening is wide and it makes the most sense for the space.

Personally, I would spend the money to have the wall reworked to accommodate a regular interior door.

No one here will have a barn door option for you. They are THAT contraindicated for any inside space but for bathrooms it's that Xs 10.

It is not that style barn door, it is barn doors in particular that no one likes. They offer next to zero privacy, do not hold in noises or help with odors and take up wall space. There is a reason hey are called a "Barn" door.

A lot of hate for barn doors! We used two stock interior doors mounted to barn door hardware to cover a pantry when bifold doors kept coming the off track in a previous home and it worked well.

In our current house I made these doors that are top mounted and they look much better than the strange looking glass panel french doors with plexiglass top that were existing. They close off a flex room.

In the right situation I think barn doors have a place but hope you find a style far from the rustic pictured for your beautiful bathroom.

Barn doors are very very useful on barns, mainly because you don’t need to prop them open. You can slide it open a little bit or a lot, and no matter how windy it is, the door stays where you put it. Barn doors can also be very heavy, and hanging them on a sliding track rather than using large hinges makes sense.

I dunno about that, the barn doors on my barn and my stable work perfectly well. The ones on the barn are two-story, so I wouldn't have the same loft access if they were garage doors. I do have two bays of the barn that have garage doors too :) The barn doors on the stable are more standard size for horses, and the only one of those I get a problem with is if I let that subborn dock grow back up into the door path. The bathroom in my barn has a regular house interior door, not a barn door.

But at the end of the day, a barn door is kind of just a big curtain of solid instead of cloth. While I find a big solid metal curtain to serve as an exterior wall on an outbuilding can be wonderful. I would not just hang a curtain to serve as a functioning door in the house, even if it is made of metal, wood or whatever solid material.

It's kind of worse in this instance because of that bathroom. It's a really nice, modern, upscale, pale pretty thing. It's not design suitable for a barn door. For sure not that grey reclaimed wood, that extra sticks out. I'm sure the designer of that door had great intentions, but I have actually seen that reclaimed pallet door in use in outbuildings and animal fencing so I just can't see in in the house like that. DYI jobs tend not to have such nice door handle, but they are handy cheap doors to make when you need to. A couple folks have used the whole pallet and put insulation in it to make it an insulated door- supposed to work well for root cellars and ice fishing houses.

A bathroom like the OP has should have a door that is light and clean like the room. Perhaps taking a cue from the detailing of the cabinetry in the room for the design of the door.

What beesneeds said about door style: look for something that complements the cabinetry in the bathroom.

We’re all really, really, REALLY hoping you’ll change your mind on the barn door thing. Are there other reasons you feel you need one other than “they’re everywhere here” and a large opening into the bathroom?

Your lovely and elegant bathroom has elements of glam; a rustic barn door would not compliment it.

I don’t hate sliding doors at all, but would not use one in your bathroom. Even with a more gracious style door, the track will look out of place.

You close in the space and put in a pocket door or a regular door. Your bathroom entry should not be a focal point of the room.

And the problem with barn doors, (besides the look), is they never close all the way on the bottom, so in the middle of the night you'll hear all the sounds, see the light literally and maybe even smell the smells unless your bathroom has a separate toilet room. Just a bad idea all around.

BTW: I've been in several brand new houses here and not one of the barn doors that some builders are still using, work properly. And we're not talking about low end homes. We're talking about homes that start at 1.5 mil and up.

One other possible issue. Is the bottom of the chandelier at least 8' from the top rim of the tub? If not, it most likely is a code violation and won't pass inspection. (For inspection, just put up a flush mount light and after the inspectors leave, rehand the chandelier.) Just an FYI.

We're putting in a barn door to our master closet that also leads to the bathroom. I didn't want something too rustic and found this one on Wayfair:

I have a barn door in a basement coat closet. Every time I open it, I'm glad I don't have to slide it open very often - it's a big pain. We considered it in our bathroom, but am VERY glad we went with a traditional door. I would think about some of the interesting doors that Beverly posted.

If all of the negative comments haven't convinced you and you still want to proceed, I would look at something like this with frosted glass. The naysayers will call this a double no-no whammy with barn doors AND glass, both of which aren't seen as great doors for bathrooms. I have a glass panel pocket door on my master bath, with obscured glass. It is a good quality Simpson Douglas Fir frame and it provides plenty of sound barrier and privacy, so I don't agree that glass can't work.

No to barn doors. They do not block sound and provide no privacy. Additionally, in my experience with them in a work setting, they seem to always come off of the tracks. I have never and will never have them in my home.

To provide more context, this master bathroom used to have no door but just an entrance.

We ended up installing a modern barn door. It is not completed yet, but want to share some photos. We still need to look for a 24'' pull set and my carpenter will install door casings / privacy door lock from INOX.

I hope you and your spouse are heavy sleepers and light doesn't wake either of you, because now when you head to the bathroom in the middle of the night and turn on the light, it's going to flood the bedroom with the light from the bathroom because of the glass in the door.

The door could have opened into your bedroom and not had the problem of the switches.

@cpartist this is such a big bathroom and there is certainly solutions to the light problem.

This bathroom has 4-5 light switches controlling different sets of lights. The set shown in the photo above is the brightest. We could certainly turn on the chandelier which is more warm, or even just install a plug-in night light. The toilet is in its separate room.

There is a reason why the original floor plan does not come with a door.
