I hate to tell you but the light you have is already hung too high.The bottom of the fixture usually is best at 32-36 " above the table . I like chandeiers that actually light the table not the ceiling.All your art and wall decor is hung too high and what are those white things . I think they will look best hung in a group maybe over the buffet instead of the too small art.Not sure if you would be into a bit of modern but these both could work The bottom one for sure

Just to clarify, the white things are the paper snowflakes which I mentioned are coming down.

I think the scale and shape of our current fixture are off — I like the longer, lower styles you’ve shared (thank you). My husband wants something higher (he’s tall and has ideas about moving the table to the side during cocktail parties) but I agree with you re: height.

The top photo you’ve posted is fantastic - any idea re: source for that fixture?

Tehy are both from Wayfiar . Tell hubby to serve cocktails in the LR and save his head. Sorry I meesied the part about the snowflakes . Ido however think you need a much larger piece of art above the buffet and maybe a really pretty table runner and when I entertain I always buy fresh flowers at the supermarket I put them in the LR the DR and in the powder room.

Center the bar cabinet on the left wall and place some art above

Take the white 3D elements and group them together in a location that suits the design better than the dining room.

I think a linear chandelier would be best for your room but you only gave us the side view and I could not place it into the image.

Thank you both. I was surprised when I measured just now - bottom of fixture is 34” above the table. Still seems really high to me but perhaps just because the proportion is off.

To solve the issue of its height/cocktail parties, a chandelier with a chain might be an idea and just gather the chain and secure. I’ve also seen a small table with hors d’ouvres placed under the chandelier.

Best to have the light at the right height.

The one Amy posted is much more in line with the space, wagon wheel is over done, and this is not an MCM space, its transitional at most. As to hanging low, if it was lighter it wouldn't be so intrusive, if you hang it too high it will look awkward. if you dont want a chandelier. I would do a flush mount, not semi flush. With the age of the home, I think something period appropriate would really be nice
