What does this MCM corner need?

We just picked up this super cool vintage MCM sectional. If I add anything to the left wall, I feel like it’s going to look too cluttered because the painting is very busy and huge. But, yet at the same time the left wall feels completely bare πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

You are going to need more artwork on the bare wall but not something massive. Maybe a small pair of something. I think you also need to shift the large piece up just a bit, because it is just barely overlapped by the back of the sofa, which looks a bit odd.

And probably an end table to "support" the right end of the painting. How much wall space is over to the right and how far over to the right does that painting extend.

Does the sofa have to be shoved into a corner ? There would be additional options if you moved it away from the wall.

Here’s maybe a better photo to give a sense of the whole space

Definitely need to move the painting up. I tried moving the sofa away from wall but I think the room is not quite big enough

I say pull sofa away from wall.

    How far?

That looks much better! What do you think of something like this?

Instead you could put a narrow sofa table behind and put some great MCM vases/ statues there if you could find some tall enough.

Love the colors in your room. That is a great sectional.

I like the sectional pulled out from both walls.

I’m wondering if a wallpaper on that wall would be a good idea…

I would try shifting the sectional so that the curve is not in the corner. Try rotating it so the left side comes down toward the camera and the right side shifts to the left. That may make it so the art has to be switched to the other wall. Maybe even try it so the left part of the sectional is floating and the curve is against the blank wall. Then move the art. Or maybe leave the art where it is...if no part of the sectional is under it, it might look even more fabulous, then figure out what to hang on the current blank wall. You could even do some shallow floating shelves with a few interesting objects.

I can't find a pic in a finished room of the sectional oriented the way I'm trying to describe, but this is it:

It would be OK to have a 3D piece on the other wall for balance.

The painting might really need to be hung off-center.

Can you show pics of all 4 walls, if possible straight on at eye level?

Also, what is the size of the large pic?

It looks like the reason the pic you showed with the fab sofa off the wall looks better is bc you took it higher and not at eye level...yes?

IMO the current piece of artwork is too large for the space. It reaches nearly to the ceiling and reaches down to the couch. I would find another space for it.

I'm in love with a good tightback MCM sofa. Your's is stunning and the room near perfection. Can you post a pic of the other side of the room as it will inform what to hang on left side of the sofa?

The painting has a large presence, so I'd hang on the left side something 3D, not too big, and made of wood or brass. Seems that flying geese were a big MCM thing. There are a ton available on esty. If they aren't your thing, try a group of hanging objects, not too dense.

Pull the sofa 8"-ish away from the wall, equally on the left and right sides. (Your pic below looks like the right side is coming too far into the space.) The goal isn't to createcenter of the room seating but to give the large painting and lamp a little room to breathe. They look a bit like they are being held hostage.

I would play with the furniture maybe the sectional where the chairs are for instance. No do not move the art up it is fine where it is hung. I think the art is too dark next to the dark sectional splay with the pieces Maybe the sectional facing the art. It is hard to get a feel for the size of the pieces and the space so maybe post ato scale floor plan here in a commnet.

Surprised no one else has said this, but but….(maybe i missed a window.) why isnt the artbpiece over the longer side of the couch? I dont like how it’S floating over empty space to the right of the short side of the couch. also also, if it were on that left wall, it would be a focal point mirroring the entry opening oposite it.

No wallpaper please, it would be busy. You already have huge wall art. I would go just with wall decorative plaques or some accents.

    Some options

Thanks for all the tips! I'll take a video to give a better idea of the whole space in just a bit...

I'd vote for leaving the wall unadorned and accessorize the sectional with one or two blue cushions the color in the painting. You need an end table, so a small low blue lamp might also do.

I suggest you place the arc lamp at the end of the sectional so that you can see it's nice curved shape instead of hidden behind the sectional. A black metal sculpture (to pick-up on the black in your canvas) and of course accent pillows on the sectional and decor on the coffee table.
